Yellow tomatoes are no longer surprising, but tomatoes do not leave anyone indifferent. After all, the fruits have not only excellent taste.
According to the breeders’ description, this mid-season variety Golden Bull’s Heart (100-117 days) is suitable for growing both in open ground and in film greenhouses or greenhouses.
The plant is indeterminate, grows up to 1,5 m in height. 3-4 fruits are formed on the brush. Tomatoes grow large, have a conical shape (seen in the photo) and a golden yellow color. Fruit weighing 400-600 grams have a smooth skin. According to summer residents, the fruits have a pleasant taste and fleshy pulp.
The main advantages of this variety of tomato: excellent taste characteristics, optimal content of sugar and carotene. Tomatoes Bull’s heart f1 are great for fresh consumption or for processing.
Tall tomatoes have several advantages:
- When fixed on a trellis or support, a tall tomato gets good air access and is evenly lit. These factors increase the resistance of the plant to fungal diseases.
- The extended ripening period of tomato fruits allows harvesting from mid-July to autumn frosts. This is very convenient, as you can stretch the pleasure and enjoy a fresh tomato for a long time.
- Features of plant growth allow you to increase the number of fruit clusters, which leads to an increase in yield. With proper care, it is possible to collect about 13 kg from a plot of one square meter.
Peculiarities of growing
For a quality harvest, it is important to properly care for tomatoes at all stages of growth – from planting seeds to harvesting.
Preparation of seedlings
When planting tomato seeds, the Ox Heart of Gold performs the same procedures that are done with ordinary tomatoes. X
Tomato seedlings are laid out in rows on specially prepared and moistened soil. Then they are covered with a thin layer of soil – about half a centimeter. To maintain soil moisture, the box is covered with a polyethylene film.
Until the moment of germination of tomato seeds, the air temperature of approximately one parameter should be maintained on the soil surface – 21-23 ˚С. As soon as the seeds germinate, you can remove the protective film. The appearance of the first leaf must be expected on the fifth or sixth day. Then the seedlings are immediately dived – they are seated in separate cups (seen in the photo).
After about 25 days, you can lower the temperature by one or two degrees. It is this mode of slowly lowering the temperature that will contribute to the proper development of the initial three brushes on the tomato.
To strengthen the seedlings, the temperature should be lowered again. This is done two weeks before planting seedlings in open ground. The daytime temperature indicator should be approximately 18-19 ˚С, and at night it is recommended to lower the temperature to 17 ˚С. If the temperature is gradually and slightly reduced in this way, then it will be possible to prevent the low setting of the first flower brush.
If such recommendations are not followed, then a decrease in the future tomato crop is possible. Excessive lighting can also affect the location of the first brush (too low).
Planting tomato seedlings in open ground
When transporting seedlings, it is desirable to minimize all negative factors (drafts, sudden changes in temperature). To prevent their influence, it is better to cover the box with seedlings with polyethylene. It is not recommended to water seedlings of tomatoes before transportation. It is also necessary to exclude the transportation of tomato seedlings in a supine position.
A seedling with a clod of earth is lowered into the prepared holes. Seedlings are dug up and carefully watered.
It is recommended to adhere to the following scheme for planting a tomato in open ground: the distance between the bushes is 51-53 cm, and the aisle should be laid 65-70 cm wide. If the tomatoes are placed in a checkerboard pattern, then it will be easier to use the trellis.
Tomato garter
For the construction of a simple trellis, support pillars are dug in along the edges of the row. A wire is stretched between the tops of the supports.
Each tomato is tied with a rope to the trellis. As a tall tomato develops, the stem is tied to a rope. During the growth period, tomatoes must be carefully tied up (as in the photo) so that the stems develop correctly and do not fall.
It must be borne in mind that this indeterminate variety, planted in open ground, begins to bloom after 9-12 true leaves, and flower brushes are laid every 3 leaves.
Top dressing and watering
To get a plentiful and high-quality harvest, it is necessary to provide tomatoes with the right care. For the entire period of growth of tomatoes, three top dressings must be carried out:
- the first – in 10-15 days. This is necessary for better adaptation of the plant to the soil and for the plant to build up a powerful root system. Use solutions of organic fertilizer;
- the second dressing of the tomato is carried out during flowering. This is necessary for the formation of more ovaries. It is necessary to give preference to mineral compositions containing potassium and phosphorus elements;
- the third dressing is carried out after fruit set – to improve their taste and increase productivity. To speed up the ripening of tomatoes, you can add nitrophoska or superphosphate to the soil.
Also, regular fertilization of the earth with a solution of organic matter does not interfere – approximately every two weeks.
Watering tomatoes alternates with loosening the soil every three days. The volume of water is adjusted depending on the growth of seedlings:
- at first, moderate watering is sufficient for each seedling. Literally with spoons until the plant is well fixed;
- as soon as the tomato seedlings are hardened and the need for shading disappears, you can pour about two liters of water under each tomato. It is better to water in the morning, before the heat of the day. If the soil dries out during the day, then in the evening you can water the plant additionally.
According to the reviews of summer residents and, taking into account the developmental features and the ripening period of tomatoes, such a variety in the southern regions can be grown in open ground, in a greenhouse. In the middle lane, this bull’s heart tomato variety can only be looked after for greenhouses. In the northern regions, where the summer is very short, these tomatoes should not be grown at all due to the late fruit ripening period.
