Tomato Black Prince: description, characteristics
Tomato “Black Prince” was bred in China in 2000 on the basis of wild-growing tomatoes. This variety has a specific dark color. The taste is pleasant, typical of tomatoes, without pronounced features.
Characteristics of “Black Prince” tomatoes
This variety is ideal for delicious salads, tomato juice, ketchup and other sauces. But for conservation, it is not suitable. Because of their thin peel, canned tomatoes do not hold their shape well.
Here are the main characteristics of the variety:
- bushes are tall, require support;
- the fruits are large, their weight reaches 0,5 kg;
- with proper care, up to 4-5 kg of fruits can be harvested from one bush;
- fruit color is dark red, closer to burgundy;
- fruits are moderately fleshy, slightly sweetish;
- the variety is resistant to diseases.
The main disadvantage of the variety is that it cannot be stored. The fruit should be eaten or processed immediately after harvest.
Growing tomatoes “Black Prince”
The “Black Prince” should not be planted near other varieties, as cross-pollination will occur and the taste of tomatoes will change. The minimum distance to another grade is 1,5 m.
Seeds for seedlings must first be kept in potassium permanganate and treated with a growth stimulant. They are planted in containers with warm earth in mid-March. Planting depth – 2 cm, distance between seeds – 2 cm. The ground should be watered with warm water and covered with polyethylene. You can remove the shelter after the first shoots appear, that is, approximately on the 10th day. From this time on, the seedlings will grow rapidly.
Seedlings should grow at a temperature of + 25 ° С
In mid-May, you can transplant seedlings into the ground. A little phosphorus-based fertilizer should be placed in each seedling hole. Before planting, the lower leaves of the seedlings must be torn off. “Black Prince” loves moisture, so it should be watered often and abundantly. Pour water under the root of the plant. Loosen and mulch the soil after each watering. Top dressing is applied every ten days.
Prevent disease. Water the bushes with a weak solution of copper sulfate, spray them with a solution of potassium permanganate, sprinkle the ground around the bushes with ash. Use microbiological protection to prevent pest attacks.
Now that you are familiar with the description of “Black Prince” tomatoes, you can decide whether to grow them in your garden. This variety has its pros and cons, but the downsides are offset by the fact that it is easy to grow.
