Tomato Batyanya: characteristics and description of the variety

In recent years, the cultivation of tomatoes, and other garden crops in the open field, has been associated with many difficulties that the weather suits summer residents and gardeners. Apparently due to the difficult environmental situation, it has become so unpredictable that not only the weather forecasting bureau, but also folk signs can not cope with their task. Unexpected frosts are replaced by a prolonged drought or, conversely, a long period of heavy rains, after which phytophthora begins to rage. In these conditions, it is especially important to pay attention to varieties specially bred in order to withstand adverse weather conditions.

There are such varieties among tomatoes. The Siberian Garden company specializes in breeding varieties of tomatoes that can grow and produce good yields of tasty and healthy fruits in the difficult climatic conditions of Siberia.

Tomato Batyanya: characteristics and description of the variety

Tomato Batyanya, the characteristics and description of the variety of which this article is devoted to, refers to just such tomatoes. It is quite capable of bearing fruit in open ground conditions, even beyond the Urals, and bearing large and sweet fruits.

Features of the variety

The tomato variety Batyanya was bred in 2007 by Siberian breeders O. V. Postnikova and V. N. Dederko. In 2008, it was included in the State Register with recommendations for cultivation throughout Our Country in open ground and under special shelters.

The variety can be classified as interderminant, tomato plants are characterized by unlimited growth and in greenhouse conditions can grow up to 2,2 meters.

Attention! According to reviews, it ties tomatoes equally well both in greenhouse conditions and in open ground.

Tomato bushes are quite powerful, branch well and give strong growth with long stems, therefore, they require mandatory pinching and garters.

The leaves are large, dark green. Plants are characterized by simple inflorescences. On one bush there are 8-10 flowers, of which about 6 fruits are tied on average.

One of the positive aspects that distinguishes this variety is its early ripeness. The first tomatoes can begin to ripen after 90 days from the moment of mass germination. However, under unfavorable growth conditions, this moment may come in 100-105 days. At the same time, the fruiting period is quite extended, which is very convenient for a personal plot, since it allows you to gradually collect ripening fruits even from several bushes.

As for the yield, there is some uncertainty in Batian tomatoes in this matter. Since the official description of the Batyanya tomato variety in the State Register indicates a yield of 1-2 kg of tomatoes from one bush, while many other sources indicate a more significant yield characteristic of 5-6 kg per bush.

Comment! Tomato bushes of this variety are distinguished by their unpretentiousness to growing conditions and are even able to withstand slight temperature drops without catastrophic consequences.

There is no reliable information on disease resistance in the description of the variety, but gardeners’ reviews indicate that Batyanya tomato is quite resistant to many common nightshade diseases.

Fruit Characteristics

The variety got its peculiar name, apparently due to its fruits – weighty, heavy, strong and juicy.

The Batyanya variety is distinguished by the shape of the fruit, which especially attracts most gardeners – they are round, slightly heart-shaped with a small nose, without ribbing. The peduncle has an articulation.

Tomato Batyanya: characteristics and description of the variety

Tomatoes are pink or raspberry in color, the flesh is juicy and fleshy with small seed chambers. Accordingly, there are very few seeds in tomatoes of this variety, which is very upsetting for gardeners who seek to breed the Batyanya variety for themselves and their friends. At the base of the stalk, while still in the ripening stage, there is a large dark green spot on the tomatoes, which turns yellow as it ripens.

Tomatoes of this variety are large in size, which, by the way, is a rarity among early ripening tomatoes. On average, the weight of the fruit is 200-300 grams, but some specimens can reach up to 700 grams.

Attention! Some gardeners notice that, unlike other varieties, with sufficient feeding, the size and weight of the fruit do not decrease over time, and even large tomatoes can be seen on the upper tiers of the bushes.

The skin of tomatoes is quite dense, which allows the fruits not to crack under any conditions. Accordingly, tomatoes are stored quite well and even tolerate transportation well, which is rare among pink and raspberry-colored fruits.

The taste of tomatoes is rated by expert tasters as a four, which does not prevent some gardeners from admiring its sweetness, while others criticize and even call it insipid. But as you know, taste is one of the most subjective characteristics, besides having a strong dependence on growing conditions and top dressing.

The main purpose of Batyanya tomatoes is salad, which does not prevent many hostesses from using it for making juices, ketchups, tomato pastes and for spinning various vegetable platters with tomatoes for the winter.

Growing stages – from seedling to harvest

Like most even early-ripening tomatoes, tomatoes of this variety must be grown using seedlings. Since some summer residents complain that the seeds of this variety do not germinate very well, it is advisable to check them for germination before sowing, even if you purchased the seeds from a reliable place. The procedure itself is not complicated at all. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Then dip the tomato seeds into the glass. All seeds ready for germination should sink to the bottom within 3-5 minutes. It is better to remove the floating seeds so that they do not occupy an extra planting area.

Important! After this procedure, do not forget to rinse the sunken full-fledged seeds well under running water so that there are no traces of salt on them.

Germinate tomato seeds in a warm and dark place. Sowing is carried out approximately 60 days before planting in a greenhouse or on beds in open ground. The first shoots usually appear 3-7 days after sowing. Immediately after germination, seedlings should be placed in the light and, if possible, reduce the temperature, especially at night, by 5-7 degrees. This will allow the plants to develop a strong root system and not stretch too long.

If you have sown the seeds in a common container, then do not forget to pick the seedlings after the first true tomato leaves appear.

Before planting in the ground at a permanent place of growth, it is advisable to feed the tomato plants several times. It is good to do this with natural home remedies such as whey, wood ash or hydrogen peroxide.

Since the tomatoes of this variety are characterized by significant growth and branching, when planting, do not plant more than 3 plants per square meter. For a denser scheme, the bushes must be kept strictly in one stem, otherwise the tomatoes will not have enough sunlight for full ripening.

Attention! According to the usual scheme, Batyan tomatoes are formed into two stems. Thus, you can get a sufficient number of fruits of large sizes.

In order for the yield of tomatoes of this variety to please you, you need to regularly feed, water and tie up the stems of the bushes. Stepping is also necessary, otherwise the tomato will use all its strength for the growth of greenery, and not for the ripening of fruits.

Tomato Batyanya: characteristics and description of the variety

Evgenia, 45 years old, Tyumen Region
To be honest, I did not like the seedlings of Batyanya variety tomatoes. There was some frail one, so she left only a few bushes for herself – she distributed the rest, which she later regretted a little. Tomatoes grew large, fleshy, sweet. Although I led them even in three trunks, this did not affect the yield in any way. In general, I am very satisfied with the variety and will plant it again.
Tatyana, 52 years old, Ekaterinburg
I planted this variety both in the greenhouse and in the open field and did not notice much difference. Everywhere he perfectly set fruit, in the open field he began to ripen one of the very first. Tomatoes are large, juicy – I made juice from them for the whole winter, and it was very tasty to eat in salads anyway. I recommend these tomatoes.
Valentin, 39 years old, Grodno
Batyanya’s seedlings were just a feast for the eyes – both strong and tall. I planted it in open ground and a couple of bushes – in a greenhouse, for testing. Magnificent tomatoes – fully justify their name. Just do not forget to feed and water them, especially with potash fertilizers, and you will not know any worries.
Irina, 35 years old, Kirov
Didn’t like the variety at all. Half of the seeds did not germinate, the seedlings were all frail, and the tomatoes were not at all impressed with the taste, real grass. I won’t plant any more.
Hope, 39 years, Tolyatti
Batyanya tomatoes are simply wonderful, tasty and juicy and store well for such an early variety. Already in July, everyone ate tomatoes. It’s just that a yellow spot is observed at the base, it spoils the appearance, but, probably, I did something with top dressing.

Conclusion

If you are interested in the characteristics and reviews of the Batian tomato, try growing tomatoes of this variety yourself. In any case, the variety is worth paying attention to, since the choice of a suitable tomato variety for adverse conditions is relatively small.
