Tomato Auria: description, reviews

The Auria tomato has many names: Ladies’ caprice, Manhood, Adam, etc. This is due to the unusual shape of the fruit. The variety in the catalogs can be found under different names, but the main characteristic remains unchanged. Auria tomato is famous for its high yield and excellent taste of fruits.

Characteristics of a variety

Let’s start the description of the Auria tomato with the fact that the variety was bred by Novosibirsk breeders. The culture is intended for open and closed cultivation.

Advice! For the middle zone and Siberia, the cultivation of Auria in greenhouses is recommended. The open method of cultivating the variety is more suitable for the southern regions.

Auria refers to indeterminate tomatoes. The bush is a vine that can stretch up to 1,8 m in height. In a greenhouse, a tomato grows more than 2 m. However, the structure of the bush is not sprawling. The branches on the flexible stem of the tomato grow a little, the amount of foliage is average.

Important! In order for Auria tomatoes to give a good harvest, the bushes need to be formed by removing extra stepchildren.

Characteristics of the fetus

Tomato Auria: description, reviews

The most interesting thing in the description of the Auria tomato is its fruits. A vegetable with tuberculate walls, elongated up to 15 cm, gave rise to many interesting names. The mass of the fruit reaches 200 g, but the average weight of a tomato usually varies between 80–150 g. Tomatoes are tied with a brush. Its mass can reach 0,8 kg. This weight is too much for thin shoots. So that they do not break off, vegetable growers regulate the number of fruits by removing the excess ovary. The ripening period of tomatoes lasts from mid-July to September.

If you cut the fruit of Auria lengthwise, then inside you can see two seed chambers. The grains are small, evenly spaced along the fleshy pulp of the tomato. The skin of the tomato is thin, but rather dense walls are hidden under it. Tomato pulp is characterized by a large amount of dry matter. Due to this, the fruits of Auria are stored for a long time, do not have the property of cracking and endure long-term transportation. A ripe tomato becomes completely red in color. There is no green spot around the stem. Sometimes the skin from the central part of the fruit to the end acquires a light shade. This is considered the norm and does not affect the taste of the tomato in any way.

Without the taste of a vegetable, the characteristics and description of the Auria tomato variety will be incomplete. The fruit is more beautiful than delicious. Fresh gourmets do not approve of it. The pulp of a tomato is slightly sweetish, and in an unripe form it is fresh. The high content of solids makes the fruit low-juicy. According to reviews, Auria tomato is more suitable for conservation. The elongated shape allows you to conveniently place the fruit in the jar. Canned tomatoes are tasty and whole. Dense pulp does not crack during heat treatment.

Positive and negative features of the variety

Tomato Auria: description, reviews

To fully characterize the Auria tomato variety, let’s look at its advantages:

  • the tomato is not afraid of temperature fluctuations;
  • if there is no epidemic, the resistance of Auria to diseases is high;
  • tomato variety is drought resistant;
  • high yield;
  • despite the dryness of the pulp, the good taste of tomatoes is manifested in preservation;
  • fruits are resistant to cracking, have an excellent presentation, tolerate transportation.

Among the disadvantages of tomato, the following points can be distinguished:

  • the fruits of Auria are stored well, but not for long;
  • thin stems break under the weight of the brushes;
  • culture is demanding on the selection of fertilizers.

Another unpleasant factor is the difficulty of buying Auria seeds, since the variety is not widely distributed on sale.

Fruit processing

Auria tomatoes have specific fruits that are ill-suited for fresh consumption. The vegetable is dry but fleshy. Due to the small amount of water, the tomato pulp does not crack during heat treatment. Meatiness has a good effect on the consistency of tomato paste. Grated puree does not need to be boiled for a long time to evaporate water. The taste qualities of a tomato are manifested precisely after processing. Ready pasta acquires a sweetish aftertaste. It becomes soft and very thick.

Canned fruits from a jar retain their shape, remain elastic and look beautiful on the table. Salted tomato pulp retains a pleasant sweet and sour taste. On the festive table, Auria will adequately take pride of place.

Features of growing a variety

Growing the Auria variety is no different from caring for other tall tomatoes. Of course, there are a number of nuances, but they affect adult culture more.

Preparing seeds for sowing and growing seedlings

Tomato Auria: description, reviews

To get a good harvest of tomatoes, seeds begin to be prepared in February. First, the grains are calibrated by discarding small and broken specimens. Hand-sorted tomato seeds are poured into a jar of saline. After 15 minutes, all empty grains will float, and full ones will settle to the bottom. Blankets should be thrown away. All other tomato seeds are washed with clean water, dried, and then placed in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate. Within 20 minutes, the grains are disinfected.

To speed up the emergence of tomatoes, the grains are soaked before sowing. To do this, gauze is spread on a wide saucer, tomato seeds are laid out in one layer, covered with gauze on top and moistened. For soaking it is better to use distilled warm water. Moreover, it should half cover the grains of tomatoes. Sometimes vegetable growers add growth stimulants to the water.

Important! The soaking process lasts 12 hours. During this time, you need to change the water 3 times.

After soaking, an important process begins – germination. Tomato seeds are similarly laid out on gauze on a saucer, only they are not poured with water. The fabric is constantly kept wet by spraying with a spray bottle. Before hatching, tomato seeds should be kept warm at a temperature of at least +20оC.

Hardening is an important stage that increases the resistance of seedlings and adult tomatoes to temperature changes. Plus a 50% increase in productivity. The process involves placing tomato seeds in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Hardening occurs at a temperature of +2оC. After that, the tomato seeds are heated at room temperature +20оC. The procedure is performed a minimum of 3 maximum of 5 times.

The time of sowing seeds directly depends on the place of planting tomato seedlings. In the south, Auria grows well outdoors. In this case, the sowing of grains is carried out 62 days before planting the seedlings in the garden. With greenhouse cultivation of Auria, seeds are sown 45–55 days before planting seedlings. Soil is better to use purchased. It already has all the necessary trace elements. If the earth is collected from the garden, it is disinfected by watering it with a cool solution of manganese, after which it is heated in the oven. To completely kill pathogens, it is enough to withstand the soil for 20 minutes at a temperature of 190оC.

The treated soil is left up to 14 days for ventilation in the fresh air. After that, the soil is poured into containers, grooves are made 1 cm deep and hatched tomato seeds are sown. From above, the grains of tomatoes are covered with earth, watered from a spray bottle, after which the container is tightly closed with a film.

Every day before the emergence of shoots, the container is opened for 30 minutes. At this time, tomato seeds receive oxygen. If the soil is dry, then slightly moisten it. Under the film, the seeds are kept at a temperature of +28оC. With the advent of seedlings, the shelter is removed, and the temperature is lowered to +20оC.

During the entire growing period, tomato seedlings should receive maximum light. Before planting, it is hardened by taking it outside into the shade, and then gradually into the sun.

Features of caring for an adult tomato

Tomato Auria: description, reviews

Continuing to consider the description of the tomato variety Auria, it is worth dwelling in more detail on the features of caring for an adult plant. The culture is characterized by high yield, which means that the plant needs a lot of nutrients. Auria is very fond of fertilizing with organic matter and mineral fertilizers. Although resistant to drought, the tomato responds well to timely abundant watering. The soil around the roots should always be loose.

The Auria bush is a liana and needs to be stepsoned. The plant is formed into 2 stems, and all other pagons are removed. As the stems grow, they are tied to a trellis. Branches with bunches of tomatoes are propped up, otherwise they will break off under the weight of the fruit. A prerequisite for the Auria variety is the removal of excess leaves. Usually it’s the bottom tier. Plus, the leaves are cut off near each brush, leaving 2 or 3 pieces.

Returning to top dressing, it is worth noting that Auria tomatoes are usually enough to fertilize three times for the entire time of growth:

  • when planting seedlings;
  • during flowering;
  • with the appearance of an ovary.

This amount of top dressing is considered normal if the site has fertile soil. Otherwise, the frequency of fertilization is selected individually.

In general, the Auria variety is considered thermophilic. In the northern regions, cultivation is allowed only in heated greenhouses, and the result is not always successful. If the air temperature drops to zero, the inflorescences will begin to fall off.

Important! You can collect seeds from Auria for reproduction. It is only necessary to choose powerful, well-developed bushes with a large number of fruits.

Tomatoes ripen no earlier than 115–125 days from the moment the sprouts hatch. Auria from 1 m2 under normal growing conditions, it can bring up to 12 kg of fruit. The harvested crop is usually immediately allowed for processing and preservation.

Disease control

Tomato Auria: description, reviews

The resistance of the tomato to the disease promised by breeders does not always coincide with reality. About the Auriya tomato variety, reviews of vegetable growers say that plantings on acidic soil are partially affected by vertex rot. Often the problem is observed with a lack of moisture. The fighting method is simple. Auria requires frequent watering so that the soil under each bush is slightly moist. You should not resort to expensive chemicals right away. A reliable tomato rescuer is a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture. It contains copper sulphate and lime. The solution is treated with tomato bushes from 2 to 4 times per season. It does not hurt to reduce the acidity of the soil. To do this, dolomite flour is added to the soil.

And now let’s read the reviews of vegetable growers about the Auria variety tomato.

Reviews

Lydia Nikolaevna, Seversk
I grow the Auria variety for conservation. The tomato is so fruitful that six bushes are enough. Tried making salads. The tomato tastes good, but it is better to eat fresh juicy fruits. For this, I have other varieties, and Auria goes purely for pickles.
Anna, Novosibirsk
Our climate is cool, so Auria tomatoes grow in my greenhouse. Bushes higher than 2 m did not grow. Once, for technical reasons, I did not heat the greenhouse in time. A few inflorescences crumbled, but the bushes survived. Auria is excellent for conservation. Not very good for sale. People prefer round fruits more.
