“Tolstoy you looked better”: the girl shared the reaction of men to her weight loss

Deciding to lose weight out of concern for our health or out of a desire to change something in ourselves, we still pay attention to the opinions of others. And secretly we count on words of support, and even better – admiration. Even if we lose weight “for ourselves.” And what if instead of positive comments, insults fall on us? Our heroine knows this firsthand.

Hope is 24 years old and has been blogging on TikTok since November 2020. In it, the girl shares useful recipes, shows exercises and makes funny videos about her weight loss. It has almost half a million subscribers already, most likely due to the fact that Hope’s advice works. At a minimum, they help her herself, because the girl managed to lose 45 kilograms.

Until a few years ago, she weighed 253 pounds (about 115 kg), ate malnourished and did not feel in control of her life. In the end, the girl decided to change and with the help of nutrition and sports, she pulled herself together.

As it turned out, not everyone positively assessed her actions. Hope posted the video and shared the comments that some men leave her. And some of them are formulated as compliments:

  • “She looked better fat, now she’s kind of arrogant”;
  • “Great, now I can turn off the lights when we have sex”;
  • “Still pulling only 3 out of 10”;
  • “Some girls are actually sexy… under all that fat”;
  • “Lose about 30 more pounds (14 kilograms) and then you will become perfect”

This video has gained more than 270 thousand likes and 1500 thousand comments, among which there are many words of support. Users reminded Hope that she is already perfect, both at her previous weight and at her current one. And we thought about the culture of losing weight in general:

  • “Some people will never be happy. I lost 100 pounds (45 kilograms) and weighed 150 (68 kilograms). And the guy said that I would look better if I lost another 100. It seems that he wanted me to become like a child ”;
  • “That’s why I’m against weight loss. I don’t like that we suddenly acquire value in someone’s eyes just because we weigh less”;
  • “People will always hate and envy others no matter what. Especially if the question concerns losing weight – after all, this is something that the majority will never be able to do. ”

The moral of this story seems to be as old as the world: you should like yourself no matter how much you weigh or how you look. There will always be people who are unhappy with you. Trying to please them will only waste your time and nerves. Is it worth it?
