Toenail turned blue: reasons

Legs are often subjected to mechanical stress from various objects. Falling, hitting, or any other injury will cause the nail plate to turn blue. Not only the color changes, but also the structure of the nail.

Blue nail can be caused by:

  • trauma and hematoma formation
  • wearing tight and uncomfortable shoes
  • nail disease
  • using low-quality varnishes and nail care products
  • impaired blood flow in tissues and lack of oxygen
  • heart failure
  • fungal infections of the feet
  • improper cuticle and burr removal

Bacteria accumulate under the plate, which cause unpleasant symptoms.

When a toe is injured, the toe may not just turn blue. The most common signs are throbbing and soreness when touched. Moreover, in the absence of first aid, the pain does not go away for a sufficiently long period of time.

The pain is caused by the accumulation of blood under the nail plate, which does not have the ability to go outside. It is characterized by a bursting sensation inside the finger.

In the first minutes, a cooling compress should be applied to reduce blood flow to the damaged part of the body. After injury, as a rule, there is a flaking of the plate and a gradual regrowth of a new nail. In order for it to grow beautiful and even, it is necessary to protect it from any pressure with clothes or shoes.

To remove the bloody formations and get rid of the pain, it is necessary to release the blood immediately after the injury by piercing the nail. Otherwise, the nail plate will begin to flake off. Also, you cannot tear off the nail yourself, since the skin under it is delicate and very sensitive.

When wearing shoes, harmful microorganisms can enter and the development of an inflammatory process.

In order to prevent the staining of the nail blue, you must:

  • Choose high-quality and most comfortable shoes: not very rigid, in accordance with the size of the feet, the optimal width at the toe.
  • Carefully carry out the pedicure procedure: do not cut the cuticle too much, use disinfectants to avoid the ingress of microbes.
  • For nail care, use high-quality varnishes and products: the contained chemicals negatively affect the condition of the plate, cause it to delaminate, turn blue and increase fragility.
  • If a bluish tinge of the nail plate appears without injury, you should consult a doctor to determine the cause. Timely treatment will restore the color and structure of the nail and get rid of the underlying disease.
