Tobrex drops is an antibiotic that is used in eye infections caused by bacteria entering the eye. It is recommended by doctors mainly because of its composition, because it contains tobramycin.
Tobrex – indications
Tobrex drops can be used for external eye infections and their bacterial effects. This means that it can be used for eye abrasions, eye scratches (e.g. by a cat), damage with plastic or aluminum objects, abrasions caused by sea salt or sand, burns with grease or chemical agents, e.g. dishwashing liquid. Tobrex drops prevent the spread of infection, accelerate the healing effect of the eye, which stops reddening faster. It is thanks to tombramycin, which kills bacterial cells and is absorbed very quickly at the same time.
Tobrex – dosage
Tobrex drops are also used in children who are most at risk of such damage. The dosage is shown on the packaging. It is important not to use these drops on an ad hoc, anti-infective or preventive basis, which can be a problem especially for young parents, e.g. going to the seaside with their children. The preparation is also not used internally. This means that in the case of inflammation of the inner part of the eye, the preparation is not recommended.
The preparation is applied in a small amount to the conjunctival sac 2 to 4 times a day. It is used until the disappearance of the disease, for a maximum of 4 days, because after this time the change is noticeable.
However, hypersensitivity reactions may occur. Symptoms include eyelid swelling, redness of the eye and a burning sensation around the eyeball. The drug cannot be used for more than 7 days. Which means the drug will no longer be effective. Being aware of this is extremely important, because Tobrex is often used even in the case of minor infections, preventively, because it was at hand in the home medicine cabinet. This can be harmful because you can develop resistance to tombramycin and if you are seriously infected, the drug will not work the next time. If you develop new bacterial or fungal infections during treatment, see a doctor as soon as possible. It is important not to wear contact lenses while using the drug and to avoid contact of the eye with chemicals – mascara, henna, eyeshadow, etc.
