Tobacco (Тобакко)

Decent rum at a moderate price is a good option for tourists sipping Mojitos in a beach bar during the day and enjoying the vibrant club life of Mallorca at night. It is this rum called Tobacco that is produced by the local enterprise Destilerias Antonio Nadal SA. The production of the drink began in 2008 (the date “1898” embossed on the bottle is the year the company was founded). Despite the relative youth of the brand, consumers have already appreciated it: today Tobacco is exported to 20 countries.

History. Antonio Nadal Muntaner went down in history not only as a talented entrepreneur, but also as a patriot of Mallorca. He financed the construction of the railway, which in 1907 connected the capital of the island with an inaccessible mountain valley. One of the tunnels began not far from the distillery, so the absinthe, thanks to which the Antonio Nadal company gained worldwide fame, was called Tunel.

Señor Nadal and his heirs preferred quality to quantity: despite the loud fame of the company, the company produced only absinthe, gin and aniseed vodka, and the total sales volume, even in the best of times, did not exceed 80 thousand liters per year.

Everything changed in 1986, when the grandson of Antonio Nadal sold the company to the Morey-Garo brothers. The new owners have significantly expanded the range, so that today the company produces about 100 types of alcoholic beverages, and the company itself is among the 25 largest Spanish alcohol producers. At the same time, the quality of the products remains at a high level. At the beginning of the XNUMXst century, the blenders of Destilerias Antonio Nadal SA started creating rum.

Most of the tourists who visit Mallorca every year are not interested in too expensive premium rums. It was necessary to find a reasonable balance between the price and quality of the drink. It was possible to reduce the cost of production by reducing the cost of logistics. The closest sugarcane plantations to Mallorca are located in the Lesser Antilles.

The calcareous soils of Guadeloupe are ideal for growing sugarcane. Many experts say that the best Caribbean rum is made here, and Guadeloupe, Martinique and Dominica are called the “rum heart” of the Lesser Antilles.

Tobacco is produced in Guadeloupe from local raw materials and aged in oak barrels. The rum is then transported to Mallorca and bottled at the Antonio Nadal distillery in Palma de Mallorca. The blenders of the enterprise tried to satisfy the tastes of tourists as much as possible, creating both strong varieties of rum, and “ladies'” rum drinks, and a ready-made cocktail.
