PSYchology

Why do you want to get back to your ex after a breakup? The reason is not necessarily the strength of feelings. The opinion of a sexologist.

Nearly half of young people aged 17–24* return to their former partner some time after the breakup (at least once). “Establishing mutual understanding in a new union is not always easy, and this can cause a desire to return to someone who is already familiar, even despite past contradictions,” notes sexologist Irina Panyukova. “After all, establishing new relationships implies new risks, a waste of time and mental strength, and not everyone is ready for this.” In addition, if the previous romance lasted a long time and the two had already “tune in” to each other, but broke up, fear arises — “what if I don’t find someone who will love me anymore?” It is he who prevents finding a new partner and returns to the old one. But be that as it may, an emotional impulse is not enough to restore a couple or create a new union: relationships must be looked after.
