The horny layer of the skin, its topmost layer, dries out when it loses some of its moisture. The cells of the stratum corneum are separated from the rest of the cells more easily, and peeling appears on the surface. Dry skin is affected by a number of factors. How to take care of such skin? Here’s a dermatologist’s advice.
WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN CARE OF DRY FACE SKIN?
The skin of the face contains more sebaceous glands and is better protected by their secretions.
On the contrary, the skin, not covered by clothing, is sensitive to external influences: cold, heat, wind, solar heat, polluted air, cigarette smoke. Sometimes cleansers are applied to the skin that contain too many cleaning agents with a drying effect (anti-aging creams, acne creams), and shaving products for men.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF DRY SKIN?
Patients feel skin discomfort.
They experience a feeling of tightness and an unpleasant tingling sensation. If the skin is too dry, then in the areas of peeling the skin becomes inflamed (dry eczema). Patients often complain about problems after applying makeup. The day cream they use does not bring relief. Men begin to hate morning shaving.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND THEM?
First, I explain to them that they need to use mild cleansers.
I think that micellar water is ideal in this case. Increase daily hydration. I recommend using a moisturizing cream with an oily phase, and after removing make-up, a night cream containing moisturizing ingredients. They will enhance the adhesion of the cells of the stratum corneum. For men, I try to convince them to stop using aftershave and use moisturizer instead.
