Tips on how to clean windows

It is better to wash windows in cool, calm, slightly cloudy weather. Otherwise, the glare of the sun on the glass will prevent you from appreciating its transparency. In addition, in the wind and in the heat, glass dries so quickly that you simply will not have time to erase stains. So:

  1. First, we dismantle the rubble on the windowsills. We bring the flowers to the bathroom to “wash”, and send the dusty curtains to the washing machine or dry-cleaner.
  2. After that, we proceed to actually wash the windows. Use a rag and warm soapy water to wash away dirt from the outside of windows, frames and sills. For a better cleansing effect, ammonia can be added to the water (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of water). At this stage, all kinds of window cleaning products with a spray bottle are not helpers. Remember to rinse the end portions of the window.
  3. When the dirt is washed off, you can start to gloss over – this is where special quickly evaporating alcohol-based products can come in handy. Using a spray bottle, the liquid is evenly applied to the glass and washed with a soft, clean cloth or household napkin.

Even slightly dusty glass blocks up to 30% of the light, dirty windows – up to 70%. It is an established fact that a lack of sunlight adversely affects our health. There is only one conclusion from this – you need to wash the windows at least twice a year, and preferably more often.

Newsprint. After using modern means, stains often remain. Therefore, picky housewives still use the “old-fashioned” method and wipe the damp glass with a dry, crumpled old newspaper. Newsprint is excellent at absorbing water, and ink contains lead, which gives clean glass a special shine. In this case, absolute transparency is guaranteed for your windows. Although, in principle, no one bothers you to replace newspapers with paper kitchen towels, which are sold in rolls.

A piece of chalk. Another old method: first, the glasses are washed with a soapy rag. Then, thus removing the dirt, wipe with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of chalk (or tooth powder) and 1 liter of water. When the glasses are dry, they are wiped dry with a clean cloth.

Vinegar. Dull or heavily soiled glass can be washed with a warm vinegar solution (to add shine – just moisten it) and then rinse with clean water.

Linseed oil. To keep windows clean, periodically wipe them with a soft woolen cloth lightly dampened with linseed oil, and then wipe dry with a woolen or cotton cloth.

Starch solution (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of cold water), a solution of bleach (50 g per 1 liter of water) helps to wash away old dirt from the glass.

Salt. Recommended to add to water to add shine.

Agree, there is no greater pleasure than looking at the spring street through a clean window. Now nothing prevents you from looking at the world around you in a new way.

Note

  • To prevent flies from sitting on window panes, treat them with vinegar.
  • To prevent the windows from sweating in winter, wipe them with a solution of purified glycerin and alcohol (in a ratio of 1:20).
  • Frozen window panes are wiped with a solution of 2 tablespoons of table salt and 1 glass of water.
