Do you have a pet and you have the impression that your home smells bad? If you can’t stand this animal smell anymore, follow our advice to make it disappear.

A home that smells bad is not inevitable when you have an animal. All it takes is a little common sense and a few natural tips to get rid of bad smells.

Air your home

Whether you have an animal or not, it is essential to renew the air in your home daily and whatever the season. Not only that helps to avoid indoor pollution, but also to drive away odors that are a little too present.

Open your window and leave it there for at least 10 minutes, taking care not to leave your animal in this room so that it is not tempted to approach it and fall.

Change the litter

Cats, rabbits, hamsters and other rodents defecate in a cage or container provided for this purpose. To avoid odors, make sure to change it very regularly: every two days.

Some people put their cat’s litter in their toilet: much more hygienic than in a kitchen.

Finally, if your dog or cat has an assigned basket, consider regularly wash the cushion on which he sleeps.

Wash your animal

No question of washing your mice of course, however, this rule is valid for your dog. Even if it does not sweat (except under the pads), it can give off an unpleasant and stubborn odor, especially if it went out in the rain.

To drive away that wet dog smell, eDry it with a well absorbent towel and wash it regularly with a specific shampoo.

Baking soda

Baking soda is known to absorb bad odors: once your pet’s cage has been cleaned, you can pour it to the bottom before pouring clean shavings.

If your dog or cat urinates on a carpet, don’t panic: pour baking soda on the stain. Wait until the next day to remove it with your vacuum cleaner.

Alcohol vinegar

Another trick to getting rid of cat urine odor is to use alcohol vinegar. To eliminate it, soak a cloth in vinegar then rub the area to be treated.

Good to know : never wash urine traces with bleach. Cats love this smell and yours would risk reoffending

Essential oils

Against bad odors, essential oils are particularly effective. Use a diffuser that will sanitize the room and release a pleasant scent. You can use essential oil of lavender, lemongrass or conifer (pine, cedar …).

Warning, certain smells may bother your pet. This is the case of peppermint for example.
