Tingling in the lower abdomen during early pregnancy
Tingling in the lower abdomen during early pregnancy may be a common physiological event and should not be a cause for concern. It is enough to figure out what causes such sensations.
Why does tingling sensation occur in early pregnancy?
Discomfort in the lower abdomen does not always indicate a threat to the life and health of the child and indicates the possibility of miscarriage. The woman’s body adapts to its new position, many processes take place in it, which can cause unusual sensations.
That is why tingling sensations are sometimes felt in the early stages:
- Sprain of the ligaments of the uterus. Ligaments support the uterus in the abdomen. As soon as it begins to increase, and this happens gradually from the first weeks of pregnancy, the ligaments are stretched. This is accompanied by a slight tingling sensation that is aggravated by sudden movements, bends and bends.
- In the first trimester, the corpus luteum is actively functioning. It is located in the ovary and produces progesterone, a hormone that is important for maintaining pregnancy. With a large size of the corpus luteum, painful tingling sensations may be felt in the area of the ovary where it is located. By the end of the first trimester, the corpus luteum ceases to exist, and the forming placenta takes over its function.
- If the tingling sensation is concentrated in the right side of the abdomen, the liver and gallbladder may malfunction.
- Discomfort is often associated with bloating. Increased gas production leads to stretching of the intestinal walls, which presses on the enlarged uterus.
Tingling in the right side may indicate developing appendicitis. In this case, they are quite painful, the pain increases rapidly, nausea and dizziness appear.
See a doctor as soon as possible if tingling is combined with aching pain, back pain, spotting, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Safe, physiological tingling sensations associated with sprains or the function of the corpus luteum are usually short-lived, not very painful, and subside when changing the position of the body to a more comfortable one.
To get rid of discomfort, it is enough to lie down for 10-15 minutes. You can consult with your doctor about the advisability of taking medications that relieve tension in the uterus. These products come in the form of suppositories and often help eliminate tingling sensations.
In the early stages of pregnancy, it is important to get plenty of rest and listen carefully to your body.
