Useful properties of Kalinovka
The composition of viburnum is naturally enriched with a mass of trace elements necessary for the normal functioning of the body. In addition, the composition of the berries includes vitamins, minerals and nutrients that contribute to the work of all systems of the human body. The rich content of vitamin C provides the necessary support for the immune system and strengthens it.
The action of active substances, in particular pectins, contributes to the activation and restoration of basic functions, as well as the elimination of toxic substances. Vitamins and glycoside viburnin help to restore the elasticity of blood vessels, strengthen them, and normalize pressure.
Resins and tannins have a bactericidal effect, help fight fungal infections, relieve inflammation and have a mild laxative and diuretic effect. The presence of turpentine saponins in the berries helps to improve digestion and liquefy sputum.
Kalinovka has been used for a very long time as a remedy for headaches, to lower pressure, and to improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Today, viburnum tincture is used in the treatment of gastritis, ulcers, hemorrhoids, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and kidney disease. Also, the drink helps to stop uterine bleeding and overcome insomnia.

Possible harm and contraindications
Do not blindly rely on the beneficial effects of berries. Be sure to take into account the high level of acidity of the product, and do not forget that the liquor is infused with alcohol or vodka. Even in the absence of contraindications, the abuse of Kalinovka is fraught with serious health problems. And people who are at risk should generally stop using it:
- having kidney problems;
- prone to the formation of blood clots (one of the properties of berries is to promote rapid blood clotting);
- with individual intolerance or sensitivity to the components of the drink;
- suffering from gastritis and ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract;
- pregnant and lactating women, regardless of the components.
The use of calinovka must be carried out only after consulting a doctor.
Viburnum tincture recipes
Kalinovka can be prepared at home without any problems. However, the following points must be taken into account:
- the best time for harvesting berries is after the first frost, it is then that the berries acquire a sweetish taste and lose their share of astringency and bitterness;
- for viburnum tincture, you need to choose glass containers, which should first be washed and dried well;
- before cooking, the berries are sorted out, removing rotten and damaged fruits, washed and dried.

The recipe has been popular for many years due to the minimum of ingredients and ease of preparation.
Components: viburnum and vodka in equal amounts (1 liter per 1 liter), 400 ml of water, 300 g of sugar.
Method of preparation:
- Peel, wash and dry the berries, pour into a container and pour vodka so that it covers the berry layer by several centimeters.
- Prepare syrup: combine water and sugar, cook until boiling. If desired, you can add a little citric acid and cinnamon.
- Pour the syrup into a container with viburnum billet and mix everything. Insist at least a month.
- After insisting, strain through cheesecloth and pour into separate bottles. Leave for a few more days, and then you can use it.
On alcohol
Unlike the classic recipe, sugar is not needed. For cooking, you need only berries, alcohol and water in equal amounts. In this case, the berries should be ½ the volume of alcohol or water.
Preparing the tincture is extremely simple: prepare the berries and pour them into a deep container, pour alcohol and water and leave for a month. Strain the resulting drink and bottle.
On moonshine with pine nuts
Nuts and anise help soften the taste of Kalinovka. Thanks to these components, the tincture becomes more tender and pleasant to the taste.
Ingredients: a liter of viburnum and moonshine, 50 peeled pine nuts, 3 g of anise seeds, 3 tbsp. l. sugar and ½ cup water.
Cooking steps:
- Wash and dry the berries.
- Rinse the nuts under running water, pour boiling water over and dry on a paper towel.
- We mix nuts with viburnum, pour in moonshine and add anise.
- We leave to infuse for three weeks, but at the same time you need to shake the container daily.
- After the workpiece is infused, we filter it through cheesecloth.
- Cook sugar syrup from sugar and water and add to the tincture.
- Bottle and store in a cool, dark place.
On cognac with honey
This option is perfect for lovers of a specific cognac taste.
Components: for 1 kg of berries you will need 250 g of cognac, 250 g of liquid honey and 750 ml of spring water.
Step-by-step instruction:
- Add cognac, honey and water to the peeled viburnum berries and mix.
- Cover the container and leave for 6 weeks.
- Strain. The drink is ready to drink.
This version of Kalinovka is recommended to use 1 tsp. before meals, but not more than 3 times a day.
With honey and mint
The drink according to this recipe has a wonderful refreshing taste. But cooking consists of two stages, one of which is carried out much earlier than the other:
- Preparation of mint tincture: pour 200 g of peppermint into 2 liters of water and leave for 6 weeks.
- Mash the viburnum berries (2,5 kg) so that the juice stands out.
- Choose a container so that viburnum occupies ⅔ of the total volume.
- Dilute mint syrup halfway with water and pour into viburnum.
- Separate the berries from the tincture and pour 2 liters of flower honey. Insist 2 weeks.
- Strain the tincture and pour into containers.
- Insist for 3 more months.
With honey and thyme
This drink is used to improve overall health.
Ingredients: 400 g of viburnum, 100 g of dried thyme, 500 ml of alcohol, 1 liter of flower honey and 1 liter of spring water.
Preparation:
- Wash and dry the berries, mash until juice is obtained.
- Add alcohol and thyme and leave to infuse for 20 days.
- Then strain the workpiece through gauze, heat the water and add honey and pour into the tincture.
- Leave for 2 months. If foam appears, strain again.
with sea buckthorn
It is this version of the tincture that is most often called Kalinovka. For 500 ml of moonshine, you will need 50 g of viburnum and 50 g of sea buckthorn, as well as 20 g of black pepper.
Preparation:
- Prepare berries, add moonshine and leave for 24 hours.
- After a day, add black pepper and leave for another day in a dark place.
- Strain through cheesecloth.
with quince
The drink is great as a composition enriched with vitamins.
Ingredients: 0,5 kg of quince, 2–4 sprigs of viburnum, lemon, 200 g of honey or sugar, 0,8 l of vodka.
Preparation:
- Peel and cut the quince, grate or cut into small cubes.
- Crush the berries until the juice is released and pour vodka.
- Cover with a lid (but not plastic) and leave in a bright place for two weeks.
- Add sugar or honey, mix and leave for another week. Shake the mixture daily.
- After a week, add lemon juice, strain and pour into containers. Store in the cellar.
With linden flowers
Rinse fresh lime blossom and crush. Pour linden with vodka and leave for a month. Strain. Rinse 500 g of berries, dry and mash, cover with sugar and pour lime syrup. Insist 6 weeks.
Viburnum bark tincture
The bark contains many useful substances, but they can be preserved only with proper preparation. Preparing the tincture is very easy. Rinse fresh viburnum bark (without wood), pour boiling water over it and leave for 10 minutes. Take a drink three times a day for 2 tbsp. l. after meal.

Kalinovka is used not only for medicinal, but also for cosmetic purposes, and is also often used in cooking.
In folk medicine
For centuries, viburnum tincture has been used as a remedy for headaches, insomnia, and gastrointestinal disorders. Kalinovka also has a mild sedative effect, has a slight laxative and diuretic effect.
In cooking
Kalinovka with various additives is often used as an aperitif. It can also serve as an ingredient in marinades and meat sauces.
In cosmetology
The antibacterial and soothing properties of viburnum help relieve various skin inflammations and disinfect the skin. Sometimes the tincture is used to massage the limbs and back.
Despite all the benefits of Kalinovka, you need to take a drink after consulting a doctor. Otherwise, the harm caused to health can be much greater than the benefit received.
