If we love something, then it is dear to us, and if it is dear, then we devote time to it — for our own pleasure and for the sake of taking care of it.
Look at a teenager who is in love with his motorcycle; notice how much time he devotes to it: admires it, cleans and polishes it, repairs and adjusts it. Look at an old man who loves his garden: how much time he spends pruning, mulching, fertilizing and watching!
In the same way we love children: we admire them for a long time and take care of them. We give them our time. The time we spend with pleasure — we give! — to loved ones, is one of the languages of love.
