Tiger lily: planting, care

Tiger lily is a bright, rich orange flower with dark red or black spots, similar to the color of a tiger. The relatively large size of the lily reaches 12 cm in diameter. Gardeners liked this flower, as it is frost-hardy and unpretentious to grow.

The ancestral home of the tiger-colored lily is Japan and China, but it takes root well in countries with cold climates. It grows from 90 to 120 cm, blooms from July to August. It blooms well both in the sun and in partial shade.

The turbid flowers of this lily, like its hybrids, have almost no smell. This allows you to decorate living spaces with them without fear that it will cause allergies and headaches.

Lily care:

  • cut off yellowed stems, leaves;
  • remove weeds;
  • loosen the soil;
  • fertilize every 3 weeks during growth and flowering;
  • water only when the soil is very dry, but abundantly;
  • replant every 3-5 years to maintain a rich harvest;
  • cover for the winter with peat, manure or leaves covered with plastic.

After the buds have faded, it is better to cut the stems, since the formation of seeds takes a lot of energy from the plant. Then the size and number of flowers for the next year will not decrease.

For all its unpretentiousness, the flower requires attention and care. Only a properly grown plant will give a high-quality harvest.

Lilies reproduce by bulbs. They must be handled with care, otherwise they will not sprout.

The bulbs should be stored in a cool place and planted in the spring when the frost ends. Can be planted in the fall, but cover the holes for the winter

Like some other varieties, the lily has buds – bulbs, which are located at the base of the leaves on the stem. They, like bulbs, are also seeds. Bulb planting:

  1. Collect seeds from August to early October.
  2. Plant in drawers and store in the cellar until spring.
  3. Transplant into soil in the spring.
  4. Do not allow plants to bloom in the first year. Cut the buds. Flowers will deplete young plants, and a full harvest can be obtained only in the second year.

The bulbs are planted at a distance of 20 by 20 cm in a depth of 10-15 cm. It is better to grow lily on a hill, protected from the wind.

Lily hybrids have different colors. They are white, orange, pink, red-burgundy, but all with characteristic dark specks. This plant can be chosen for every taste and brightly decorate your garden with them. Lily bulbs are also used in folk medicine.
