Thrush pain: causes and treatment. Video
The causative agent of thrush (candidiasis) is the yeast fungus Candida albicans. It is present in the body of most healthy women. Under the influence of negative factors, it begins to spread along the vaginal mucosa.
Thrush pain: causes and treatment
Vaginal candidiasis is a common condition. Most women experience it at least once in their lives. Some get sick once, others may get re-infection.
The causes of thrush can be as follows:
- weakened immunity
- use of birth control pills
- antibiotic use
- diabetes
- infection during intercourse
- intestinal infection
Decreased immunity can be caused by a serious illness or medication that suppresses the immune system. The development of candidiasis can lead to therapy with broad-spectrum antibiotics. These drugs kill both harmful and beneficial bacteria. As a result, the balance of microflora in the body is disturbed, which leads to the development of thrush.
Thrush is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, during intercourse, the vaginal mucosa can receive microtrauma and damage, and this increases the risk of disease.
Taking birth control pills can affect hormone levels, which can cause thrush to develop. Therefore, in many women, the disease appears before menstruation or during pregnancy, when the hormonal status of the body changes. The development of candidiasis is promoted by diabetes, in which the level of sugar in urine, blood, and vaginal fluid rises. As a result, the acidity of the environment in the vagina decreases, and this can cause the development of thrush. Candida albicans fungi often live in the intestines; if hygiene is not followed, the pathogen can enter the vagina and cause the disease.
Symptoms and treatment of thrush
The main symptoms of candidiasis in women are:
- itching around and inside the vagina is the most unpleasant manifestation of thrush
- vaginal discharge: copious, white, cottage cheese-like
- burning sensation when urinating, which appears due to the ingress of urine on the inflamed areas
Soreness with thrush appears if inflammation of the vaginal mucosa develops. Most often, pain is observed during the primary illness. Pain in the lower abdomen with thrush may indicate the appearance of another gynecological disease.
If the vagina is inflamed, the woman will feel pain during intercourse.
The diagnosis of the disease is made according to the clinical picture and on the basis of the results of light microscopy. Treatment of candidiasis is carried out with the help of suppositories, ointments, oral tablets (Nystatin, Fluconazole, Diflucan and others). The method of treatment will depend on the form of the disease. Simultaneously with the therapy of candidiasis, disorders in the functioning of the immune system are identified and eliminated, and funds are prescribed to strengthen the microflora.
