“Three Tons” is a craft variety of intoxicating drink, which since June 2016 has been produced by the Altai brewery “Bochkari”, one of the five largest breweries in Siberia and one of the leaders in the production of draft beer in the country.
The brand owes its name to the peculiarities of the classical technology, in which fermentation and after-fermentation takes place in closed small-capacity tanks. They produce beer in two varieties:
- filtered unpasteurized – in metal kegs with a volume of 30 and 50 liters with a shelf life of 45 days;
- pasteurized – in 30-liter PET kegs, stored for 120 days.
In the same line of Bochkari craft drinks, the One Ton variety of reduced density is brewed. In total, there are more than a dozen brands of draft beer in the assortment of the plant, among which Altai Khan, Mazay, Andreich, Nemetskoye, Altai Kolos, Zhatetsky Hop, Irish Ale, Fresh bottling. In 2017, the gold award of the Moscow Prodexpo exhibition was awarded to Three Tons beer.
Historical information
The construction of a brewery in the village of Bochkari began in 1981, the chairman of the collective farm, in honor of which Andreich beer is now produced. The first products were brewed only eight years later. Until 1996, the brewery remained a structural subdivision of the agricultural enterprise and produced products in small volumes. With the change in status and management, the tasks of the brewery have also changed. In 2000, a large-scale reconstruction began, as a result of which the following were put into operation:
- water treatment area with modern equipment from Jurby WaterTech;
- brewhouses with a daily capacity of 600 tons of wort from the leading manufacturer of brewing equipment Krones (Germany);
- 50 cylindroconical tanks (CCT) of the German company Ziemann Ludwigsburg GmbH in the fermentation shop.
Filling into metal kegs is carried out on equipment KHS (Germany), which, in addition to filling 800 containers per hour, controls the quality of washing. A matter of special pride is the packaging of beer in PTF kegs made of the new Polyshield material, where the intoxicating drink does not lose its properties and taste for several months. Bottling is carried out on the line of the British company Petainer.
In 2015, the plant received the FSSC 22000 food safety management certificate. In the same year, Prince Luitpold of Bavaria visited the brewery with a proposal to start production of Kaltenberg premium beer under license at existing facilities. However, the management decided to promote its own brands, one of which a year later was Three Tons beer. Currently, the products of the Bochkarevsky brewery are sold in more than 40 regions of the country, and are also supplied abroad.
Features of beer “Three tons”
“Three Tons” is a craft variety of light unfiltered beer with an alcohol content of 4,8% and an initial wort extract of 12%. The drink is made according to the classic recipe from water, brewer’s yeast and noble hops. The peculiarity of the brand is the use of two types of barley malt: pale and Munich in the proportions of 90 to 10. The beer is prepared according to the traditional unaccelerated technology with the duration of the main fermentation from 7 to 10 days and the post-fermentation period in closed lager CCTs for at least 21 days.
The finished hoppy drink with moderate carbonation has a pleasant golden hue and high white foam. The combination of two malts gives the beer a more expressive aroma and a deep rich taste, in which mild sweetness is balanced by a light hop bitterness, leaving a barely perceptible trace in the aftertaste.
