Threading the overlock. Video

An overlocker is extremely important in the work of an experienced seamstress. It is a necessary addition to the sewing machine, as it cuts and processes the edges of the fabric with high quality. The overlock is especially useful when processing knitwear and bulk materials.

To master the overlock mechanism is quite simple, the main thing is to be able to thread it. How can this not always simple procedure be facilitated?

What you need to refuel the overlock

Before threading the overlock with threads, prepare: – threads, – tweezers.

You can also use the air jet system or the needle threader. Read the instructions carefully before threading the overlock, as threading is done in a specific sequence.

In modern overlock models, the threading diagram is drawn under a removable cover, and the threading points are painted in different colors. This makes the sewing process much easier.

After reviewing the instructions supplied with the overlock, select the thread suitable for your overlock. Select the exact size, focusing on the needle and fabric structure – the threads should easily pass through the loopers and leave an even stitch on the fabric. Some overlocks have a set of special needle threaders to make threading easier, but their hooks are too small and fragile.

Refueling the overlock quickly

First, place the bobbins of thread on the overlock shaft and pass the threads through the thread guides, and then pass them through the tension adjusters and pull-up mechanisms. After passing the threads through the eye of the needle and the looper holes, insert them to the left under the presser foot and hold with your left hand until stitching.

Remember that threads correctly threaded into the overlock will be guided in the same direction as the moving fabric.

To facilitate and speed up the threading procedure, use tweezers, which do an excellent job of charging the lower looper. The more modern your overlock is, the easier this manipulation will be, since in older models you will need a lot of manual dexterity and a lot of patience.

Modern high-quality overlocks are equipped with air-jet loopers. If you have just such a machine, insert the thread into the corresponding hole and press the lever on the machine – the thread will easily pass through the looper without your participation. In this case, threading can be done in any sequence, the line will still not be damaged.

If you are used to older models of overlocks and the process of mastering more modern models seems to be rather difficult, just be patient and do not let go of the detailed instructions.
