Fatigue and muscle pain are some of the most “thankless” signals our body sends. Why? Because they not only significantly and negatively affect our daily functioning, but are also difficult to interpret – they may simply indicate a lack of sufficient sleep and regeneration, but also be a symptom of diseases or deficiencies. One of them is vitamin D deficiency, the symptoms of which are sometimes very unusual.
- Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients that affects the work of almost all body systems
- Among the symptoms of a deficiency of the “vitamin of the sun”, slow wound healing or loss of appetite are often mentioned, but these are not the only symptoms of insufficient vitamin D in the body.
- Less common symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are, among others, fatigue and mood swings

Why is vitamin D deficiency so common?
A few years ago, Dr. Paweł Płudowski from the Institute “Children’s Memorial Health Institute” (IPCZD) in Warsaw conducted a study, which showed that 90 percent Poles live with a deficiency of vitamin D, and in 60 percent. this deficiency is severe.
Since then, a lot has changed in the field of health education – more of us know what vitamin D is, what its impact on our functioning is, and the risk of its deficiency. We know it is difficult to get enough of it through your diet or even in the sun, especially in the cloudy months. And while we do not have up-to-date research to answer the question of how many of us are currently deficient in vitamin D, we know that this is still not the best thing.
This is evidenced by the symptoms with which patients see doctors. According to the reports of specialists, vitamin D deficiency, which can be easily measured during blood tests, is behind many of the ailments that patients report.
Interestingly, the signs of a lack of a sufficient amount of vitamin are not always obvious and sometimes require a very detailed interview with the patient and a more complete diagnosis.

Atypical symptoms of vitamin D deficiency
Among the less obvious symptoms of deficiency of the “sun vitamin” are:
- tiredness,
- muscle pain,
- muscle cramps,
- muscle weakness
- bone ache,
- mood swings.
These symptoms do not have to be simultaneous. Many patients experience one or two symptoms, and they are not chronic, but are regular and recur. That is why it is worth consulting a doctor with every ailment that worries us.

Supplementation is crucial for maintaining the proper concentration of vitamin D in the body. A dietary supplement containing the “sun vitamin” in a convenient form (capsules) can be found in Medonet Market.
Why are some people more at risk of vitamin D deficiency?
Vitamin D deficiency is not the “domain” of people who live in less sunny regions or simply avoid the sun. The diet and lifestyle we lead are of great importance here, as well as the burden of disease. Some of them mean that the patients struggling with them are at risk of people exposed to vitamin D deficiency.
- diabetes,
- hypertension,
- autoimmune diseases,
- liver and kidney diseases,
- obesity.
Vitamin D deficiency may also affect people taking certain medications, e.g. steroids or anticonvulsants.
