What is the main difference between cats and dogs? The fact that the latter are much more in need of society than the former. Dogs are gregarious animals, as evolution has ordered. They do not tolerate loneliness badly, for which they are so appreciated – the cat is unlikely to rejoice so violently at the return of the owner from work, as dogs can do. Dogs are also suggestible.
Yes, this is a plus: they are trainable, they can be taught different tricks and discipline. And the downside is that not only you can do it. But also your cat. This is exactly what the owners of two-year-old pit bull Bethany and Samantha faced. The girls took the dog from the shelter: they doubted, of course, that the dog would get along with their two cats, but the desire to adopt a cute pet won. The dog was brought home, named Mako.
“When we saw Mako for the first time, we immediately fell in love. He heard us entering the shelter, looked over his shoulder and looked us straight in the eyes. Mako looked very funny: he was thin, and his head seemed too big for his body. But we thought he was just cute, ”says Bethany.
What about cats?
“At first we kept the cats separately, we wanted to introduce them to Mako gradually. And then the first oddities in his behavior became clear: he began to take a rest in the most unsuitable places for a dog, jumped on small tables, on a bar in the kitchen.
It turned out that there was absolutely no need to worry about friendship with cats. Mako is clearly well acquainted with their habits – so much so that he considers himself a member of the feline tribe.
“He copies them in everything, imitates them. If one jumps on the table, then Mako will jump. He’s always somewhere near the cats, ”laughs Bethany.
Yes, it’s probably still strange – when a pit bull sits on the refrigerator and looks at you from above. But Mako certainly does not suffer from loneliness when the hostesses are not at home. After all, he has a great company! As they say, you and I are of the same blood – a cat and a dog.
