Goose bumps, appendix, coccyx – these are just some of the mementos of our ancestors. As a result of evolution, many changes have taken place in the human body, our body has adapted to the living conditions, but there are still organs, bones and muscles that do not fulfill any functions today. The long palmar muscle is one of those parts. Many people don’t have it at all.
Research shows that about 15 percent. In humans, the long palmar muscles have disappeared as a result of evolution, but most have not yet. People without this muscle need not worry: their hands are not weaker as a result. In turn those who have them may have additional benefit from them. Long palmar muscle. How do we check if we have it?
You can easily check if you are in the group of people who have long palmar muscles. Just take a simple test. Stretch your hand in front of you, with the back of your hand down, and bring your thumb to the tip of your little finger. Then slightly raise your hand. The long palmar muscle will be visible, if we have it, on the inside of the wrist (where we measure the heart rate).
The muscle is a relic of the times when we moved on four limbs. Currently, the muscle is more developed in small monkeys or lemurs that walk on four legs than in large monkeys that do not climb trees and walk more often on two legs.
The long palmar muscles are not the only ones. Another part of the human body that remains from the old days is, for example, the tailbone. These are several armed vertebrae left over from the tail.

Wisdom teeth are left over from a larger jaw and hard-to-chew food, the appendix was once essential for the digestion of cellulose, and the muscles around the ears made it possible to ‘shear’ with the ears, as cats and dogs do today. On the other hand, the parasitic muscle connecting the hair follicle and the epidermis made it possible to ruffle the hair when we still had it. Today it is visible only at the time of the so-called “Goosebumps”.
