Kamil Durczok died on November 16. He was 53 years old. A journalist was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, he needed radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery. Although the treatment was successful, Durczok underwent regular check-ups to check for a relapse. The journalist told Piotr Najsztub extensively about his illness in an interview published in Virtual Media.

“I have quite a large malignant tumor”
Kamil Durczok found out that he had cancer in the car. It was December 23, the day before Christmas Eve, and he was going from Katowice to Krakow. He was going to visit friends. A few days earlier, he had undergone surgery in a hospital that seemed completely innocent. Durczok thought it was related to the injury he suffered while preparing for the Paris-Dakar rally. «I was convinced that I was after the normal removal of the hematoma, the ligation of a blood vessel, although I knew that I had material for histopathological examination. I thought it was routine »- he said in 2003.

When he was driving on the highway, prof. Ziaja. He wanted to make an appointment with Durczok for a face-to-face interview. Then the journalist realized that it was about something serious. So he called back and asked the doctor to tell him directly what was happening. He didn’t want to wait uncertainly. Prof. So Ziaja told him to stop the car.
I felt so soft. I stopped under the bridge behind Jaworzno. He told me that the tests would have to be repeated because the first results are bad, I have quite a large malignant tumor.
After this information, Kamil Durczok went to Krakow. As he admitted, he got drunk after talking to the doctor.

The next day, Kamil Durczok underwent a more detailed examination. When it turned out that there were no bone metastases, the doctor said directly: “We are returning from a long journey, because if the cancer attacks the bones, we could count how much life you have left, and this is a chance”.
It was at this stage that Kamil Durczok really started to be afraid. Not to see his 7-year-old son grow up. In an interview with Piotr Najsztub, he confessed that he did not have time to enjoy it. And his son did not have time to enjoy his father.

Then it was time for treatment. Radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy. The tumor was located somewhere between the shoulder blade and the armpit, and after the operation, as Durczok said, his back did not look the same anymore. When the journalist was in the hospital, he became a kind of sensation. Staff stared at him, patients watched. As if they were checking if it would break. This motivated him to keep going and keep fighting.
“They wanted to pierce my head, but I wouldn’t let it”
Durczok made the decision not to disappear from television despite chemotherapy. March 8 was the day he first appeared on the screen without hair.
Chemotherapy is the slow extermination of the body that must be programmed to be slower than the death it can cause. That is, killing in pieces, but slowly enough so that the patient does not die. The point is to wipe out cancer cells with all sorts of filth, poisons.
The journalist confessed that after each chemotherapy treatment he was crying out in pain, feeling sick and literally “walking on the walls”. «The infusion itself does not hurt, maybe as much as it hurts – towards the end – trying to find a vein that does not crumble under the needle, because the veins break later and there are clots in them. They wanted to pierce my head, but I did not let it, because you have to live with it for some time »- he said.

End of therapy. Regular checkups and recommendation that he lead the life of a pensioner
In the end, Durczok’s therapy ended. His hair began to grow back, and the situation was under control. However, the journalist still had to undergo regular checkups and, as he admitted outright, was aware that the cancer could “wake up”. In a while. In addition to routine examinations, Kamil Durczok also received a list of prohibitions – he could no longer play tennis, do strength sports, drink strong alcohol. It was also supposed to avoid stress. He admitted that for him it meant that he would live the life of a retired and be buried alive.
Of course I don’t live a scoundrel life, drinking with my friends until five in the morning in clubs and going crazy on the dance floor at some ball with my wife, I just go to bed a little earlier, but I don’t see any reason why I should live as a pensioner. And for which – despite the fact that there is a great discussion at the table with my friends – I should apologize to them at 22 p.m. and go to bed. If the professor reads it, it will kill me, but I want to live a normal life.
Kamil Durczok died in the morning of November 16 at the age of 53. The hospital where he stayed informed that he died as a result of an exacerbation of a chronic disease and cardiac arrest.
