Third birth: scary or not? Video
For those women who have given birth to only one child, it may seem that subsequent pregnancies and childbirth will be much easier. But such ideas are not always correct. Despite the fact that the second and third births are already transient, there may be complications associated with the “deterioration” of the body. This often worries expectant mothers, especially those who decided to bear and give birth to a third baby.
Third birth: features of the third pregnancy
Features of the course of pregnancy before the third birth
As a rule, the third pregnancy proceeds without any special complications and often does without toxicosis, which tormented the woman the first two times. But since mainly those who are 35 or more years old go to the third birth, the age for the birth of the child becomes the main factor for the anxiety of the expectant mother. By this time, many women are already showing signs of any chronic and inflammatory diseases, especially if they did not take their health very seriously before that time. After all, these are women who work on an equal basis with men, live in megacities with poor ecology and cannot always eat right.
Many of them can already complain about both genital and extragenital pathological manifestations:
- endometriosis
- myoma of the uterus
- chronic diseases of the cardiovascular, genitourinary systems, respiratory organs
- hormonal disorders
Any of these diseases can provoke serious disruption of the work of other internal organs, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy.
Often, it is during this period that third-birth women develop late toxicosis, and such dangerous diseases as pyelonephritis, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus progress.
Very often in women who are carrying a child for the third time, there is an overstretching of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall, associated with its weakening during the previous birth and with the fact that, as a rule, the third child is larger. Due to the displacement of the center of gravity, they can experience severe pain in the lower back and sacrum, which can be weakened by wearing a special support band. Weakening of the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic day can lead to mild incontinence and urinary leakage. In addition, such mothers often have a low location of the placenta, which can cause bleeding and even the threat of miscarriage. A threat is also posed by such a factor as prolongation after pregnancy, this is a fairly common phenomenon.
You should not rely on previous experience and neglect medical support for the third birth. Deviations detected in time will help preserve the health of the mother and the fetus
How the third childbirth and the postpartum period can be complicated
Usually the third birth itself is easier and faster. But sometimes they can start so quickly that they catch a woman almost by surprise, in this case, a quick birth is dangerous because she may not have time to get to the maternity hospital. The frequent complications encountered in this case include secondary weakness of labor, when it, having begun actively, then can almost fade away; in addition, there is a danger of poor separation of the placenta in the last stage of labor. Therefore, it is very important that the third birth takes place in the presence of medical specialists and obstetricians.
The most common complications of a third pregnancy are varicose veins and anemia associated with general body fatigue.
The postpartum period is the time that a woman’s body needs to fully recover. Usually, in the first cases, it lasts up to 8 weeks, but in the case of a third birth, it may take 10-12 weeks. There is a high probability of long bleeding and discharge from the uterus, associated with its deteriorating ability to contract, and this is fraught with inflammatory processes of the inner lining of the uterus. These mothers are usually prescribed myostimulation and drugs that increase the contractility of muscle tissue. This is also done to prevent prolapse of internal organs in the postpartum period.
Complications and pathologies
Third birth: what else worries moms
The age of parents is of particular concern due to the fact that in cases where the mother is over 35 years old and the father is 45 years old, the likelihood of having a child with genetic pathologies sharply increases. To exclude the likelihood of fetal malformations, such parents must undergo a genetic study.
Fears of expectant mothers with many children are sometimes associated with the existing Rh-conflict. It develops if the mother has Rh-negative blood, and the unborn child has Rh-positive blood. Each subsequent birth and even abortion increases the risk of fetal rejection and such a disease as hemolysis.
Hemolytic disease of the fetus can cause death of the newborn or lead to health problems in the future.
Of course, the third birth is not an easy test for a woman’s body, but they have their own advantages. As a rule, this child is planned and therefore desired. Mom already knows and has experience carrying and handling a newborn. If you take into account the peculiarities of the third birth, take care of yourself and react sensitively to the slightest deviation from the norm in the activity of your body, you can avoid the appearance of complications and reduce them to a minimum. A serious and responsible attitude to her own health and the health of the unborn child will help a woman easily bear it, confidently go through the process of childbirth and fully recover her strength in the postpartum period in order to fully enjoy the happiness of the third motherhood.
