“Thinking critically means being against”

Philosopher Hannah Arendt on what is more dangerous – reflection or its absence.

“What can really help us, in my opinion, is “reflechir”, reflection. And to think is always to think critically. And to think critically means to be against. Any thinking really undermines all the frozen rules, common beliefs, and so on. Everything that happens in the process of reflection is subject to a critical examination of what is. That is, there are no dangerous thoughts – for the reason that thinking in itself is a dangerous undertaking … But the absence of thinking, in my opinion, is even more dangerous.
