Covid-19 cases among the vaccinated

Adam Niedzielski shared the latest data on Twitter. He wrote:

«So far, in the group of over 5,5 million vaccinated only 51 thousand. people showed a positive COVID-19 test result, i.e. 0,9 percent. More than half of these infections occurred within 14 days after the first dose. This means, in simple terms, that the level of protection exceeds 99 percent. »

Let us remind you that the effectiveness of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines has been officially estimated at approx. 95 percent. For AstraZeneca, it is around 76%. On the other hand, the single-dose Johnson & Johnson product, which is not yet used in Poland, has a declared effectiveness of approx. 66%.

The data presented by the minister of health shows that the majority of people in the group of over 50 she got infected up to two weeks after the first dose. This may be because the vaccine has not yet had enough time to work. It should be emphasized that full protection is obtained after the administration of two doses of the vaccine. It also takes several weeks for the body to develop adequate immune protection.

Why Do People Get COVID-19 After Vaccination?

No COVID-19 vaccine provides full protection against coronavirus infection, so there will still be cases of the disease, also among people who took the preparation. Importantly, patients then usually only have mild symptoms. Vaccinations help to avoid the severe course of COVID-19 and hospitalization.

In clinical trials, all COVID-19 preparations showed very good results in the prevention of the acute course of the disease.

The question of how long vaccines will protect us from getting sick is still open. It is not known whether, for example, booster doses or regular vaccinations every year, as in the case of influenza, will be needed. Much depends on how quickly you can achieve herd immunity and stop the formation of new coronavirus mutations.

So far, 5,5 million people in Poland have received the first dose, and 2,1 million people have been vaccinated with two doses.
