The person assisting the English king in the toilet went down in history not only as one of the most intimate helpers of the rulers. Although the function may seem disgusting on the surface, it actually offered many privileges, including close contact with the monarch. In recent months, Vladimir Putin is said to be using the “stool” services.
- In England ruled by the Tudor dynasty, the function of the king’s assistant in private matters gained popularity
- The person delegated to look after the “stool” looked after the king when he was taking care of his physiological needs
- Although the work is not the most pleasant one, it gave the “stool” a number of privileges
- President Vladimir Putin is to use the services of similar assistants. It is related to his health problems

During the Tudor dynasty, the toilette was called “stool” and the person who assisted the king in his physiological activities was responsible for this part of the monarch’s daily life. The assistant was in charge of delivering water and towels when the king finished his duties. There are debates to this day as to whether he controlled the cleanliness of the monarch’s buttocks, but most historians say his duties did not go that far. The function appeared during the reign of Henry VII (1485 – 1509), and developed during the reign of Henry VIII.
The “stool” man was gaining in importance
At a time when going to the toilet was the most intimate thing each of us did, during the Tudor rule it was an ennoblement to be present with the king in such situations. Only a few of the most trusted people, headed by an assistant from the “stool”, were allowed into the king’s secret chambers. The king shared with them not only his privacy, but also various secrets. Over the years, the “stool” was gaining in importance.
The assistant was responsible for contacting the doctors and reporting to them any health changes of the monarch. Over time, the “stool” man was responsible for managing the people who had access to the king’s chambers. He also helped with clothes and expenses from the “secret purse”. Then he also took the position of the ruler’s private secretary.
The proximity of the king gave privileges
Sir Anthony Denny, the last assistant to Henry VIII, was even responsible for maintaining the King’s dry seal, which the monarch signed on documents. “Stołkowy” lived where the king was, he also received his old clothes and furniture. For an ordinary courtier, this is a big thing. As a rule, however, the sons of the nobles were the assistant.
Disgusting as it may seem, in fact working so close to the king was desired by the English. All because of the personal nature of the profession. People turned to the helper when they were looking for work for themselves or their family members, and he was supposed to help. During the reign of Elizabeth I, it was not considered appropriate for a man to take care of her toilet – a Sleeper Maid was appointed and responsibilities were delegated to women. Ultimately, the function of an assistant was in force at the British court until 1901.
Vladimir Putin’s people collect his excrement. Apparently to hide his health
When it seemed that the old habits had passed, the findings of investigative journalists indicate that specially designated people collect Vladimir Putin’s excrement when he shows up in a “foreign” toilet. This is to be related to the deteriorating health of the dictator. Collecting Putin’s feces is to help analyze the ailments he is struggling with, but also to hide such information from outsiders. On the basis of the analysis of a stool sample, many diseases can be detected – therefore, such a test is one of the basic diagnostic tools, next to blood count and urinalysis.
Check your health. Perform a mail-order stool test, urine test and a complete blood count without leaving your home.
Recordings published on social media indicate that Putin goes to the toilet with several bodyguards. It’s unclear what they are doing inside, but one of them is holding a mysterious black suitcase that doesn’t look like an ordinary briefcase.
Putin’s list of ailments is getting longer every week. Until a few months ago, it was speculated that a swollen face indicates aesthetic medicine treatments he was about to undergo. After the war broke out in Ukraine, there was talk of mental disorders. Speculation also includes Parkinson’s disease and cancers, including pancreatic cancer and blood cancers (including lymphoma).
