Unfortunately, many of them are indispensable. But you can at least minimize the threat these things hide.
Humanity has tamed fire, learned to fly through the air, managed to defeat diseases that previously mowed down entire continents, but at the same time discovered new threats. We now tame everyday things every day that can be very dangerous if mishandled.
Flour
First, flour is explosive. Along with powdered sugar, it is classified as one of the finest substances that can catch fire and explode when there is access to oxygen. And this access is always there. Fortunately, flour is safe if it is in a bag on the shelf. In order to ignite, it still needs a spark. Therefore, try not to spill flour if you have gas lit in your kitchen.
Secondly, flour is often contaminated with E. coli. This is not considered critical, because flour does not get on the table without preliminary heat treatment. But here it is important to remember two things: first – you cannot eat raw dough, second – you must thoroughly wipe the working surfaces after preparing it.
Stuffed Toys
Dust collectors, as they are also called by some absolutely unromantic persons. These persons are absolutely right. Toys need to be washed regularly, because anything can settle on them: street dust from open windows and brought with you on clothes, house dust teeming with dust mites, pet hair, viruses due to an unexpected sudden sneeze. In general, they are capable of providing at least an allergy.
Bast
Experts say that the washcloth with which we polish the skin in the name of smoothness and getting rid of cellulite never dries out to the end. After all, the humid environment of the bathroom does not contribute to this at all. This means that bacteria proliferate in the washcloth, which can cause a skin infection or fungus. Especially if you already have a scratch somewhere, a blister, or just rubbed the barrel with a label.
Toothpaste
One of the most valuable components of toothpaste is fluoride, which strengthens teeth and thus protects us from caries. True, it is very difficult to find a paste that actually contains this microelement in Russia. The fact is that fluoride is very useful for cleaning, but it is very dangerous if it gets inside – in large quantities. Therefore, children should not brush their teeth when there are no adults nearby – you need to make sure that the baby does not swallow the paste. And even if an adult suddenly decides to swallow the paste, he risks earning himself at least a metabolic disorder, as a maximum – damage to the central nervous system.
Aspirin
Regular use of aspirin as a remedy for headaches can lead to the development of gastritis and even stomach and intestinal ulcers, and bleeding in the digestive tract. Therefore, aspirin is strictly prohibited for children. In addition, aspirin is dangerous for those who have problems with blood clotting – it thinns the blood.
Pillow
Scientists somehow wondered who lives in our pillows, made tests and were amazed: it turns out that pillows are inhabited by millions of bacteria that cause not only allergies – everyone knows about this – but also fungal infections and skin problems, acne, and even lung disease. Therefore, pillowcases should be washed at least once a week, and at a temperature of at least 60 degrees, and then it would be nice to iron them as well.
Oven cleaner
It is one of the most corrosive and dangerous for the skin and respiratory tract. In America, there was even a case when the mistress died after poisoning herself with the vapor of such a remedy. In Russia, there were no such cases, but caution still does not hurt: open the window before cleaning, wear gloves. Better yet, try cleaning the oven without chemicals.
In addition, experts refer to bleach and cleaning agents based on it as means of a higher hazard class. In the United States, dozens of cases are recorded when children drink poison from a brightly colored bottle.
Aerosol
Deodorant, air freshener, cleaning agent, water repellent shoe spray, hairspray – countless how many times a day we can use an aerosol can. Experts say the volatiles in aerosols can contain carcinogens and can cause anything: allergies, breathing problems, lung disease, and even cancer.
Gas stove
More bad news: experts have found that people who cook on the gas stove are more likely to experience lung, bladder, and cervical cancer. It’s all about the composition of steam and smoke, which inevitably forms when cooking with gas. Experts advise to always turn on the hood and try to give preference to stewing, boiling and baking – the maximum of carcinogenic substances is formed when frying food in hot oil.
Cookware with non-stick coating
The slightest scratch on the surface – and such dishes should be thrown away. If this is not done, the frying pan may begin to release harmful substances when heated, which go directly into food. For the same reason, by the way, experts do not advise using plastic spatulas when cooking. In addition, the coating will inevitably begin to flake off, “decorating” the finished dish with flakes.
Sponge for washing dishes
This is our favorite – the most dangerous and dirtiest thing in the house. If you do not change the sponge once a week, giant colonies of bacteria of the most diverse properties grow on it: Salmonella, E. coli, even fecal bacteria. And all this hardly makes the dishes cleaner. Rather, the opposite is true. Moreover, cleaning the sponge, calcining it in the microwave, washing – all this is useless. Just throw it away.
