The military qualification covers all Polish citizens who are 19 years of age or older, as well as women necessary in crisis situations, e.g. nurses. Who may be disfellowshipped?

Currently, there is no compulsory military service in the Polish army. However, every man turning 19 is obliged to undergo the so-called military qualification, during which a doctor assesses the suitability of a young man for service in the army. Accordingly, four categories of fitness and capability are allocated to the military.
What military categories are in force in Poland?
- A – fit for active military service;
- B – temporarily incapable of active military service;
- D – incapable of active military service in peacetime;
- E – permanently and completely incapable of active military service in peacetime and during war mobilization.

A medical commission decides on granting a specific military category on the basis of tests and, if necessary, also observations in the hospital, medical documentation and information collected during the medical interview. Formally, health assessment is regulated by the ordinance of the Minister of National Defense of 2018.

When it comes to body structure, categories “D” and “E” predestine: obesity, height below 150 cm, poor body build, transsexualism, androgynism. A soldier must also have healthy skin, so people suffering from disfiguring, chronic skin diseases, visible capillary cysts, diseases of lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes “slightly impairing the efficiency of the system” will not enter the ranks of the army. In addition, the service eliminates any serious trauma to the skull and brain.
Distortion of the eyelids, chronic diseases of the edges of the eyelids or conjunctiva and their adhesions, vision defect above ± 3,0 D or cylindrical up to ± 2,0 D after the use of spherical glasses, nystagmus and eyeball deficiencies – these are the most serious eye defects that exclude military service Polish.

People with hearing problems, which manifest themselves, among others, from narrowing of the ear canal, middle ear surgery or body imbalance.
It is similar with chronic diseases – diabetes, adrenal insufficiency, raging hypertension, as well as chronic heart disease.
