Each subsequent variant of the coronavirus produces slightly different symptoms. Initially, the most important were cough, fever, and loss of smell and taste. Later, when the Delta variant appeared, digestive discomfort became a signal that could indicate an infection. The situation is different with Omikron. Now, other symptoms should prompt us to test against COVID-19.
- The Omikron variant has been in Poland since December 16 and the number of cases of infection is increasing every day
- The symptoms of the Omicron are different from that of the Delta. So unspecific that it is easy to underestimate them
- The appearance of any of these symptoms is an indication for a smear test

What are the first symptoms of an Omikron infection? Pay attention to it
At the start of the pandemic, we learned that the symptoms of the coronavirus are relatively easy to isolate. The most characteristic ones were led by a persistent cough, high fever, and loss of smell and taste. In the following months, however, the situation became a bit more complicated.
When Alpha became the dominant variant (formerly the British variant), loss of smell and taste was found less and less in patients. A runny nose was also among the symptoms. It happened that the infection proceeded without coughing. The Delta variant, on the other hand, resembled sinusitis or gastric flu. All these changes effectively hampered diagnostics – patients may not be aware that they have contracted the coronavirus.

The Omikron variant also has no specific symptoms, and the mild course of the infection makes it easy to mistake it for a common cold. ZOE COVID Study allows you to track your Omikron symptoms – an application that collects data from people who have been infected with the coronavirus. It turns out that they most often felt:
- katar
- headache
- feeling tired (light or strong)
- sneezing
- sore throat

When to test against COVID-19? And why is it important?
Due to the changing variants and symptoms of coronavirus infection, All people who do not feel healthy should have a smear test. Even a slight runny nose may indicate that COVID-19 is multiplying in the body. The disease may be mild and may not require administration of, for example, antibiotics.
So why do you need to be tested for the presence of the coronavirus? Due to its infectivity. Even with a mildly symptomatic infection, the patient passes the pathogen on. And this in another person (especially with comorbidities, immunosuppressed or elderly) may cause more severe symptoms, increasing the risk of hospitalization and death.
Perform the Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19 Check up and see if you have been exposed to the coronavirus.
