To advance resveratrol research, the University of Leicester held an international conference called Resveratrol 2012. Resveratrol is a chemical found in the skin of red grapes. It has been claimed for some time that it helps prevent many conditions, such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and many people take it in the form of a dietary supplement.

So far, however, it has not been proven that resveratrol it actually works for humans, and the way it works is unknown. Moreover, it has been shown to have the potential to interact with other medications. Therefore, scientists cannot determine who can take it and at what dose. Therefore, its use on a large scale cannot be recommended. Researchers at the University of Leicester have conducted studies to determine the doses in which resveratrol works anti-cancer.

They have shown that taking the same amount of the substance every day as in two glasses of red wine reduces by half the probability of developing intestinal cancer. Now scientists want to find out how resveratrol works in human cells. They hope that they will be able to go a step further and begin clinical trials that will allow them to determine the level of this substance that is appropriate for humans. The aim of the Resveratrol 2012 conference is to enable the exchange of information between scientists researching resveratrol, as well as the preparation of reports on the latest global research and the preparation of recommendations for next year regarding the use of this substance and further research on it.
