Coronavirus in Poland. Data as of August 6, 2022.

The Ministry of Health (MZ) reported that 4410 new infections with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were recorded. 698 are reinfections, or relapses. Fifteen patients have died from COVID-19. 15 thousand. 11 coronavirus tests.

Most infections come from the following voivodeships: Mazowieckie, Śląskie and Małopolskie. The statistics for these regions can be found below, and you can check the number of infections in other provinces HERE.

These numbers are definitely higher than at the beginning of summer. In June, the health ministry talked about 200-300 infections every day, today we are talking about thousands (the average for the last seven days is 3,4 thousand. illnesses). Similarly, deaths – when the summer vacation began, there were two or three of them a day, today it is a dozen or so. Last week’s average is 13 deaths, compared to three a month and a half ago.

Of course, Poland is not alone – there are also more cases of COVID-19 in our neighbors and in other European countries. For example, in Germany, the number of infections has recently remained at an average of 50. per day, and the upward trend is visible there since May, when there were less than 30 thousand infections. every day. Across the southern border, in the Czech Republic, there are over 2 infections. per day (in June – several hundred), similarly in Slovakia (1,5 thousand vs. 200-300 one and a half months ago).

The government’s assessment of the government’s fight against COVID-19 is devastating

The “guilty” is still Omikron, especially its extremely contagious subline BA.5, which has already spread throughout the world. However, there are more reasons for the summer wave of infections, and one of them is the almost complete lifting of restrictions and the lack of education in the aspect of sanitary and epidemiological principles that are the basis of epidemic control.

The government’s strategy to combat the coronavirus has been controversial since the beginning of the pandemic. Today, after more than two years of its duration, these ratings are still low.

Bow. Bartosz Fiałek, who keeps track of the Polish and global epidemiological situation and scientific research related to COVID-19, says straightforwardly: “Good decisions were in the minority”. In an interview with Odeta Moro in Onet Rano the doctor said that some of the moves were certainly good, but the missed ones outweigh the scales.

«It cannot be said that the government did nothing because they did something. Some of their moves were certainly good. I would say it like this: the Polish government has been straddling since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland. On one leg there were the good decisions, on the other there were bad, unnecessary or too late decisions. I am talking about preventive vaccinations and how and when we introduced obligations to respect epidemiological principles »- he said.

– If I were to judge for the moment, I would give the government a «2+» on a scale from 1 to 5. Even that would not be «3», because good decisions were in the minority. For three to appear, there should be a bit more good decisions than the bad ones – summed up Fiałek.

Meanwhile, the government has no plans to amend its COVID-19 strategy at the moment. According to the latest information from the Ministry of Health, the plans are only to expand the age group of people who will be recommended the fourth dose of the vaccine. There will be no return, at least anytime soon, to mass testing.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski, referring to the current increase in the number of infections, also said that the possible autumn wave of infections will probably be delayed compared to last year. The next increase in coronavirus infections will fall, according to the Ministry’s experts’ forecasts, in November and December.
