1/10 Lipodystrophy

Lipodystrophy is a rare disease that involves the loss of fatty tissue mainly in the face, arms and legs. People suffering from it usually look much older than they really are. The skin under which there is no adipose tissue is no longer plump and begins to sag like an old man’s. The disease is often accompanied by fatty liver, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, muscle hypertrophy and hormonal disorders. The mechanism of this disease has still not been fully elucidated, and no effective cure has been found so far.

2/10 Trimethylaminuria

Trimethylaminuria (fish odor syndrome) is a rare metabolic disorder. It consists in the deficiency of the enzyme responsible for the conversion of the trimethylamine compound. This compound smells similar to ammonia and rotting fish. Due to its excess in the body, the excreted sweat and urine also smells like rotting, decaying fish. Additionally, illness can cause bad breath. Unfortunately, there is no effective cure for this disease. It is only recommended to follow a proper diet and avoid the consumption of products such as eggs, legumes.

3/10 Choroba Moebiusa

Moebius syndrome is an incurable genetic disease. Its main cause is underdevelopment of the cranial nerves. The disease manifests itself after birth, and children with this syndrome have slanted eyes, a short or deformed tongue, and problems with sucking and speaking. A characteristic symptom is the lack of facial expressions. Patients cannot smile, have problems swallowing and eating. There is no way to cure the causes of this disease, the only chance is to treat the symptoms surgically.

Probably additional, unusual connections between neurons in the brain are the cause of the so-called super memory. People with this condition, called hypertension, can remember long strings of numbers, the content of timetables, etc.

Constant sexual arousal is a disease that affects both women and men. In men, this condition manifests itself as a prolonged and painful erection that lasts from about a few hours to even several days. For example, an injury, alcohol or medication can cause a painful erection, but in many cases the cause of the disease is unknown. In women, the disease manifests itself in constant excitement that cannot be satisfied by a single orgasm. In this case, the disease is mainly psychological.

Very few people in the world have been diagnosed with a skin allergy caused by contact with plain, clean water. The disease is manifested by reddening of the skin, swelling. Patients can drink water, only external contact causes an allergy symptom. Both the causes of the disease and its treatment are a mystery to doctors. At the present stage of knowledge, it is impossible to treat the causes of this disease, but only to alleviate its symptoms.

This rare condition may be due to a head injury or stroke. The disease manifests itself in a change in the way of speaking, a foreign accent and an elongation of the way of pronouncing vowels.

In some people, the cold air can cause a skin allergy in the form of hives, swelling, and even lead to severe anaphylactic shock. Doctors do not know the causes of this condition. It is only known that in the blood of people allergic to cold, the amount of immunoglobulin E, responsible for the hypersensitivity reaction, increases.

It happens that as a result of loud laughter, fear, cold or too greedy food, we get hiccups and do not want to go for a long time. Hiccups are a symptom of rhythmic contractions of the diaphragm. Most people relieve it after drinking water or holding their breath. However, there are people in the world who have hiccups continuously for years and no doctor or drug can solve this strange and embarrassing problem.

In Australia, there was a case of a woman who was unable to open her eyes upon waking. This condition lasted for several days and then the disease resolved itself. It was so much troublesome that it came back from time to time. Doctors suspected that the cause of the disease might be mental disorders. However, they were unable to cure this symptom, the woman had to learn to live with this condition.
