In connection with the recent events in the United States related to the murder of an African American, issues related to racism have significantly intensified in the country.
On this basis, the American company Dreyer’s, the manufacturer of the popular dessert Eskimo Pie, decided to change the name of this product. According to the chief marketing officer of the company Elizabeth Marquez, the word “popsicle” offends the Eskimos.
The Eskimo Pie dessert itself was invented in 1920 by pastry chefs Christian Nelson and Russell Stover. 2 years after the invention, they patented this product and sold all rights to it to Dreyer’s. Then the image of a boy in Eskimo fur was used in the logo and advertising of the product.
