Nowadays, it is even strange to hear that pregnant women may not be registered in the consultation, not undergo screening and not be tested. But such cases still exist, especially in poor countries, where residents simply do not have access to medical services.
Arif Sultana became pregnant when she was only 19. At 20, she went to give birth: there was no hospital in her native village of Arifa, so she had to get to the hospital in the neighboring district. A little premature boy was born. A few days later she was discharged home with the baby. The belly of the young mother has not gone anywhere, but there is nothing strange about this: it is only in glossy Instagram that women look perfect on discharge from the hospital, even now on the cover in a swimsuit.
After 26 days, Arifa again needed a doctor: his stomach began to ache, and the pain grew very quickly. She was again taken to the hospital, but this time for some reason to another. And it was there that the woman was finally given an ultrasound.
“We were just shocked. I have never seen anything like it before, ”gynecologist Sheila Poddar, who examined the patient, told the BBC.
It turned out that Arif … is giving birth again! And just twins. It was not possible to give birth naturally, so she underwent a cesarean section. A boy and a girl were born – twins. So Arifa literally in a month from a childless woman turned into a woman with many children.
“Arif Sultana and her husband are very poor people. She didn’t go to the hospital for the entire pregnancy, she didn’t have an ultrasound scan, and she had no idea what was in store for the twins, ”the doctor explained.
Arifa, as it turned out, had a rare congenital pathology: two uterus. Usually, with such a feature of the body, it is very difficult for women to become pregnant in principle, not to mention the fact that embryos begin to develop in both uterus at the same time. Pregnancy may not occur at the same time, but with a difference of several days or even weeks. But doctors tend to believe that in the case of Arifa, everything happened at the same time.
“The babies and their mother are completely healthy. They were discharged four days after the caesarean section, ”added Sheila Poddar.
