The District Court in Skierniewice issued a sentence for a doctor who, as a result of omission, contributed to the death of the child in childbirth. It is a case from December 2012.
On November 21, 2012, a 37-week pregnant woman was admitted to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Ward of the hospital in Skierniewice, who had a referral from a family doctor indicating her earlier termination. Medical recommendations were issued by the attending physician and experts associated with the Polish Gynecological Society. Despite clear guidelines, the head of the ward did not take any steps to perform a caesarean section and sent the woman home.
After two weeks, the woman went to the department again – this time to the Department of Pregnancy Pathology – and again no labor was carried out. Three days later, the baby was born still.
The court in Skierniewice found the head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department guilty and sentenced the head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department for 10 months, suspended for 2 years, with a fine of PLN 2. PLN and deprivation of the right to practice the profession for a period of 2 years. The doctor was charged with exposing the child to immediate danger of loss of life and serious damage to health.
