Even if you have seen this a hundred times in the movies, giving birth in real life is not an easy task. The heroine of this story had to give birth literally on the track. And her husband needed endurance and the ability to make quick and correct decisions. This is how he saved his son’s life.
Gayla Thompson of Tennessee gave birth to her second child in a car on the side of a freeway on her way to the hospital. The birth was complicated, but the baby is in perfect order – and all thanks to the actions of his father Ryan.
“Apparently, the birth had been going on for two days, but I had no idea about it! Gayla admits on her Facebook account. “How could I sleep through the first contractions?!” Some time later, the woman realized that everything was serious, and called her husband – he was supposed to return from work and take her to the hospital.
But first they had to take the five-year-old Conor (eldest son) to kindergarten – at that age he would not be allowed into the hospital. The kindergarten is located in the opposite direction from the maternity hospital, but the couple were sure that they had enough time.
Giving Conor to caregivers, Gayla suggested that her husband call the 911 rescue service, but he considered it unnecessary. Instead of waiting for rescuers, he himself took his wife to the maternity ward.
However, already on the road, the contractions became more frequent, and the pain was such that the woman could not even scream. Ryan realized that the baby was about to be born, and he would have to take delivery himself. He stopped the car on the side of the road and dialed 911.
The baby’s head was already showing, but it was stuck because there was a two-minute break between contractions. The child was purple and did not breathe, the mother recalls these terrible seconds.
With further efforts, Ryan managed to pull the newborn out. Turns out he had an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. The father was able to free the boy, and, to the relief of his parents, he began to cry. The baby was attached to the mother’s breast and wrapped in clothes Gayla had collected for the hospital.
Parents were looking forward to the doctors. “Waiting for them is the fastest and at the same time the longest 10 minutes of my life,” the woman recalls. She and the baby were taken to the hospital. They confirmed that with Carson (as the couple named their second son), fortunately, everything is in order.
