The woman became pregnant with her son. And after three weeks – also a daughter
This phenomenon, when a woman can conceive twice a month, is called superfetation – it is extremely rare.
39-year-old Rebecca Roberts was already growing up a 14-year-old daughter, when the woman suddenly found out that she was pregnant again. To say that she was glad is to say nothing. Instead of trying to conceive with their partner, 43-year-old Reese, for a long time, Rebecca even received fertility treatments. And finally it bore fruit!
At a 10-week scan, the expectant mother was solemnly announced that she would have a son. And again, joy – two children of different sexes, great! 14-year-old Summer will have a younger brother – she can help, because the girl is already quite old. The second scan confirmed: yes, there will be a boy, healthy, strong, everything is all right with him.
Soon Rebecca began to feel the first stirrings of her tiny son. The third scan was coming – and then all its participants (except perhaps the future babies) were in for a real shock. The specialist who performed the ultrasound scan saw on the screen … the second baby. Tiny, it was much smaller than the first, but it was definitely another crumb.
“I am so sorry that Reese could not be present, because of the coronavirus he was not allowed to enter the hospital … But we were shocked – both me and the doctor. It’s good that I was lying, otherwise I would have fallen, ”says Rebecca.
As the doctors explained, there was no error during the first scan. The device simply could not see the second baby, the baby was too small. By all accounts, Rebecca conceived him three weeks after getting pregnant first. This phenomenon is called superfetation – there are about ten such cases in the world.
“The fertility drugs I’ve been taking may have played a role,” Rebecca shrugs.
At the 33rd week, the twins had to be born: Mom was sent for a cesarean section due to problems with the umbilical cord of the second baby, the youngest. By the way, it turned out to be a girl. Her older brother Noah was born weighing over two kilograms, and his sister – only 1100 grams. The girl was named Rosalie.
“Noah and I were soon discharged home, and Rosalie remained in the hospital for another 2,5 months,” says Rebecca. Now both babies are in perfect order. Is that Rosalie is noticeably smaller than her older brother.

The girl who publishes the chronicles of her pregnancy under the nickname Blondie Bunny is even more fortunate. She got pregnant with her first child – well, she thought so. In fact, it turned out that there will be twins. And the third screening showed that she would not have twins, but triplets! Moreover, the “single” baby is two to three weeks younger than its twin brothers.
The blondie was in complete shock: she had not heard of superfetation, she had not taken fertility drugs. She just turned out to be one of those rare women who are able to ovulate twice a month. Moreover, she and her husband managed to have sex, hitting exactly both windows of fertility.
Now the main task of the expectant mother is to bring the pregnancy to at least 28 weeks. If the babies are born at this time, they will already be able to go out. By the way, Blondie is sure: this is her first and last pregnancy. After all, she will immediately become a mother of many children, and raising three is not easy.
