The weirdest house in Japan: outside 2 floors, inside – 13

At the same time, there is not a single isolated room in it, and the bathroom occupies the entire upper floor, while maintaining at least some privacy.

This house looks unremarkable – there are dozens, if not hundreds of such houses in Osaka. But inside it is rather unusual. The fact is that from the outside it looks like a standard two-story building. And inside there are as many as 13 floors-levels. Moreover, they are all visible from anywhere in the house. There are no partitions here, no isolated rooms.

A family of three lives in the house.

“They asked to design the dwelling so that it felt like they were next to each other – regardless of which end of the house each of them was located,” the studio’s architects explain. Tato Architectswho were the authors of the project.

The height between the platform floors is quite small – 70 cm. But each can be used as a mini-room, storage space or a huge shelf. From the bathroom you can see the kitchen (but not vice versa), from the kitchen – the living room. Therefore, you can freely talk to a person from any room. On the other hand, this somewhat narrows the personal space: you cannot be sure that someone is not looking at you at this moment. And you – well, you never know – needed to pick in your ear.

“Customers did not need separate rooms, they said that they did not need to retire in a separate space. They also did not need isolated storage space: they considered putting things in closets in the family an unnecessary task. Open hangers and shelves were enough, ”the architects say.

Maybe for our Russian soul such openness is overkill, but such mobility of space allows us to change it almost every day. It costs nothing to start a rearrangement here. Today you work on the ground floor, tomorrow on the terrace, and the day after tomorrow overlooking the courtyard. In addition, there is a lot of light and air in the house. And how surprised the guests are!
