When you get used to the constant supply of hot water, the breakdown of the boiler becomes a blow. What to do if the water heater does not turn on? You can call the wizard, or you can try to independently determine the cause of the breakdown. How to do this, read below.
Why the boiler does not work and how to fix the problem
You wanted to start the boiler, but it does not turn on? Do the indicators on the panel not light up? First of all, check the presence of voltage, as well as network elements. The reason may be in the faulty parts of the heater. Let’s consider everything in order.
Electrical network diagnostics
Without power supply, any boiler “Ariston”, “Oasis” will not work. Press the plug more firmly against the socket: it may have come loose. To test the outlet, plug in another appliance and see if it works or not.
Examine the network cable. It may be pinched or damaged. If the insulation is broken, it is better to replace the element. If the cable is intact externally, attach an indicator screwdriver to its ends. The worker will glow on the “phase”, when connected to “zero” and “ground” – no.
See if the fuse has blown. It is important to choose the right cable section depending on the power of the boiler.
RCD diagnostics are being carried out. To do this, click the “Test” button. The device should then turn off.
Maybe it’s a wiring issue. If there is poor contact with the heating element terminal, the heater will not turn on. It is necessary to tighten the terminals to the contacts or replace the wiring in case of a malfunction.
Problems with the operation of the heating element
Electric boilers Thermex, Gorenje perform heating using a heating element. In the “Termex” models, two “dry” heating elements can be installed, which are enclosed in a flask. They burn out when the equipment is turned on without water supply.
“Wet” elements are immersed in water and installed only in storage devices. A common cause of combustion is scale. Hard water contains impurities. They settle on the spiral, creating a crust, as a result, the part overheats and burns out. To make sure that the element has burned out, diagnostics are carried out by the tester. How to do this, we described in the article “Replacing the heating element in the water heater.”
Thermal protection has tripped
This happens with a faulty temperature sensor or with the formation of scale. When the control board receives a signal that the water temperature exceeds 90 degrees, the thermal protection is activated and turns off the heater. If the heating element is turned off, but the protection is not turned off, this can be done manually.
Sequence of work:
- Disconnect the device from the mains.
- Drain the tank.
- Take out the heating element. To do this, unscrew the bolts or nuts of the flange.
- Take out the heater. If it is overgrown with scale, you need to clean it in the same way as the walls of the tank. Read: “How to clean a water heater.”
- The thermal protection button may be located at the base of the thermostat, but it is better to look at the instructions for your model. Click on the button to turn it off.
Pressure sensor failure
Such a malfunction is typical for flow technology. As soon as the pressure in the system rises, the membrane is stretched, activating the switch. The latter contributes to the supply of current to the heating element. If the membrane is damaged or stretched, it is better to replace it with a silicone one.
It also happens that the boiler does not turn off. There can be many reasons: the start button has sunk (stuck), the temperature switch or temperature sensor has broken. To avoid sticking and burning out of the elements, do not forget – first the water is turned on, and then the electricity.
