The water heater does not heat water, it heats poorly: what to do

The boiler allows you to use hot water daily without looking at the public utilities. However, technology is not immune from breakdowns. What to do if the water heater does not heat up? You need to look for signs of a problem and find the causes. Many devices are equipped with a self-diagnosis system that facilitates the task by displaying an error code on the display. See below for how to fix the problem.

Why did the electric boiler stop heating water

Two symptoms of a problem:

  • The indicator on the panel is on.
  • The light on the panel does not light up.

If the equipment does not heat the water well, but the bulbs are on, check the main valve. If it breaks down, the equipment can work normally, only hot water goes to the neighbors.

Perhaps they forgot to close the valve. Feel the riser: if it is warm, and the water is cold in the tap, the problem is in the valve. Cover it up or replace it with a new one.

Does the appliance heat water for a long time? Make sure you don’t drain the contents until they’ve reached the right temperature. How hot is the boiler? Depending on the volume – from 2 to 4 hours. It is also important what voltage is supplied to the device.

Regardless of the brand of the boiler – “Ariston” or “Termex”, the cause of poor heating could be scale.

If a technical inspection is not carried out in a timely manner, limescale affects the walls of the tank, all parts, including the heating element. The thicker the “crust” becomes, the more difficult it is for the element to give off heat. Gradually, the heating time increases or the heating element burns out.

To prevent this from happening, read the publication “How to clean a water heater and follow the instructions.

Boiler not holding temperature? The reason may be in the depressurization of the tank. It consists of two parts, insulation lies between them. The tank needs to be inspected and repaired.

The indication is off, the equipment does not heat the water. What’s the matter? It is necessary to check what voltage is supplied to the device. Press the plug firmly against the socket, it may have come loose. Also check the network cable – do this:

  • Take a multimeter or indicator screwdriver.
  • Attach a probe or screwdriver in “phase”. If there is a signal, the cable is working. At the same time, it should be absent at “zero” and “ground”.

Then, check the socket for serviceability. To do this, connect another device to it. Did he earn? The socket is correct.

Another option: the voltage in the outlet is not enough for the normal operation of the boiler. Check the RCD machine, it may have knocked it out.

After checking, it turned out that everything is fine with the network? Then the reason is in technology.

Self-diagnosis and repair

First of all, the thermostat is checked, which regulates the temperature. Attach the probes of the tester to its contacts and check if voltage is applied to them. Are there numbers on the screen? So the voltage is coming in. Turn on the thermal protection button. When the temperature is exceeded by more than 95 degrees, the fuse is activated and the heating is turned off.

After turning on the thermal protection, the part did not work? Then you need to replace the thermostat.

Failure of the heating element also leads to similar consequences. On average, it lasts up to 4 years, but if you do not change the magnesium anode and do not clean it, the operating time is reduced. How to diagnose a heating element, we told in the article “Replacing the heating element».

The failure of the heating element is affected not only by scale, but also by turning on the boiler without water.

Having problems with the flow heater? Again, you need to check the power, because this type of equipment is more powerful. If the power consumption is more than 5 kW, be sure to install a circuit breaker for 30 A, with a consumption of 7 kW – 40 A. If you do not follow these rules, the element will not last long.

A malfunction could occur if the pressure sensor did not respond in time. The pressure in the system is too high, the sensor does not work, the heating element burns out.

What causes a pressure sensor to fail? It is equipped with a membrane. During the water supply, it stretches and triggers the sensor. When it is stretched or damaged, the part does not fire in a timely manner. Instead, it is better to install a silicone membrane.

When buying a protochnik, pay attention that the element is in a protective flask. When in contact with water, salts quickly corrode its surface.

Now you know what to do with heating problems. To avoid them, it is important to install the equipment correctly and operate according to the instructions.
