The washing machine door does not open: what to do to fix it

In the automatic washing machine, the hatch door is securely closed not only with a mechanical, but also with an electronic lock. Such measures were not taken by chance – the manufacturer completely protected the user from an emergency. After the end of the program, after a few seconds, the sunroof should unlock.

If this does not happen and the washing machine door does not open, there is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Why won’t the washing machine door open?

If the signal alerted you that the program was over, but when you tried to take out the laundry, the door did not open, then the matter is in a breakdown. Let’s see why this might happen.

To make it clear where to look for the cause, it is necessary to understand the SMA device. The hatch door is equipped with a handle with a latch that fixes the hatch in the closed position. Before the start of water intake, a click is heard, which indicates the inclusion of the UBL – an electronic blocker.

The control board receives a signal from the UBL about the blocking of the lock and gives a command to draw water into the tank.

After the end of the cycle, the lock will be closed until the water is completely drained from the tank. But if after a few minutes the hatch does not open, proceed as follows:

  • Pay attention to the display and control panel. Perhaps the system has issued an error code on the scoreboard. After decoding, you will understand where to look for a breakdown.
  • Disconnect the washer from power completely. Wait 15-20 minutes and then turn it on again. If there was a failure in the system, then after a reboot, the normal operation of the machine should resume.
  • Try restarting the program loop. If the module’s signal has not reached the hatch lock, then with the launch of the program, its operation should be resumed. Do the same after a power outage in the room.

If all else fails, one of these breakdowns may have happened:

  1. There is a problem with the drain system or pump. The water does not drain, so the lock does not open.
  2. The mechanical part of the door handle broke.
  3. Sunroof lock does not work.
  4. Electronic module defective.

How to open the CMA door yourself

Before proceeding with the repair of the LG, Samsung, BOSCH, Indesit machine, you need to open the hatch door. Look, there may be water left in the drum – then drain it.

What to do:

  • Disconnect the washing machine from the mains.
  • Open the small hatch under the front of the machine. To do this, use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the latches.
  • Prepare a container and drain the water by unscrewing the filter.

If your SMA lacks a bottom, then you can access the hatch lock from below.

Drain the water from the dispenser tray beforehand so that when the housing is tilted, it does not spill onto the control module.

Then tilt the cabinet back and reach underneath to open the washer door.

Checking the door handle

After opening, inspect and pull the handle. If it moves too freely, then it is broken. You can replace the handle yourself by removing the door with glass from the body. Purchase a replacement kit first.

Inspection of the castle UBL

First you need to externally inspect the lock and wiring. To do this, unscrew the two fixing screws on the hatch. Then bend the cuff and remove the metal clamp. With your hand behind the body, remove the lock.

  • Inspect the UBL wiring. If burnt parts are visible, replace it. In this case, the UBL loses communication with the control board.
  • The lock itself is checked with a multimeter. By attaching the probes to the UBL contacts, measure the resistance.
  • If there are no indicators on the screen, the blocker needs to be changed.
