The washing machine does not wring out: how to find the cause and solution

Is the washing machine washing and rinsing properly, but does not want to wring out the laundry? Of course, you can wring out the laundry yourself, but this is not a way out. If the machine does not turn on the spin cycle, this is the first warning of a breakdown, which can worsen without diagnostics.

Why spin problems occur and how to fix the problem, read the article.

Causes and signs of breakage

How to understand that the washer does not go into spin mode? Symptoms indicating a malfunction:

  • The program has ended, but the water remains in the drum. No plum.
  • You take out wet clothes from the drum that have not been wrung out.
  • The water drain is very noisy.
  • The water drain is normal, but the laundry is not wrung out.
  • Spinning works every other time, the machine does not respond to the set parameters.
  • The washer hums like it’s spinning, but it doesn’t.
  • Water drains very slowly.

These are the main signs that you should pay attention to if the machine does not switch to spin.

What could be the reasons that the washing machine has broken down and does not wring out the laundry to the end? There are technical malfunctions that require diagnostics and repair:

  1. Drain pump problems. If the washing machine has stopped spinning, the drain may not be working, so the water simply has nowhere to go.
  2. Level sensor malfunction. If the sensor breaks, the electronic board does not receive a signal about the amount of water in the tank, therefore it does not give a signal to drain.
  3. Faulty control module or his triacs. Each triac is responsible for the operation of a specific part in an automatic washing machine. Therefore, if it burns out, the board cannot control and issue commands.
  4. Malfunction of the electric motor. The brushes could wear out, the wiring could burn out. If there are problems with the operation of the motor, the drum will not rotate fast enough for a quality spin. Or the machine won’t work at all.
  5. Tachogenerator not working, which controls the number of revolutions of the motor. The signs of failure are the same as in the previous case.

If a semi-automatic machine without a centrifuge does not wring out by itself, then a broken automatic machine shifts this responsibility to you. You shouldn’t put up with it. Carry out a thorough inspection and diagnosis of washing machines LG, Samsung, Indesit, Kandy and other models.

How to start checking, read on.

What to do if the washing machine does not spin

Before you do anything or start repairs, you need to make sure that the problem is in the breakdown. Perhaps you just turned off the spin, so the machine does not go to the end of the program.

  • Look at the control panel, the no spin mode may have been accidentally turned on, or a delicate wash program has been set in which there is no spin. Then you need to set the normal washing mode and adjust the number of revolutions.
  • Top-loading washing machines may react to overloaded laundry. Also, with a small number of things, an imbalance could happen, when all the laundry is knocked into one lump, and the work of the SMA stops. In this case, the washing machine may try to spin the drum several times, after which it stops. You need to open the door and take out excess clothes or distribute them on the drum.

Modern machines are equipped with the Unbalance Protection function. Therefore, such problems occur in older models.

If you have checked all the options, but the CMA still does not turn on the spin mode, then proceed to diagnose the details.

With a plum

If the Bosch, Ardo, Ariston or Zanussi SMA has stopped and does not drain the water, the cause must be sought in the drain pump. There may also be a situation when the machine drains the water, but does not wring out. There may still be some water left in the drum, which is why the spin cycle does not work.

What do we have to do:

  • There is a drain hatch at the bottom of the front hull.
  • Release the hatch latches and open the door.
  • Substitute the container and remove the filter.
  • To check the pump impeller, run the spin or drain mode.
  • Shine a flashlight into the hatch hole and check if the impeller is spinning.
  • If it doesn’t spin, the pump needs to be disassembled.

At the same time as the pump, the drain pipe is checked. Depending on the model of the washer (“Atlant”, “Whirlpul”, “Veko”, “Gorenie”), you can get to the pump through the bottom, front or back of the case. We wrote more about this in previous articles.

  • Open the hose clamp from the tank to the pump, disconnect it and check for blockage.
  • Then disconnect the pump wiring and its fasteners.
  • Inspect the structure for debris, perhaps something is wrapped around the impeller.

If the pipe is clogged, the machine may hum, but not wring out, trying to drain the water. After installing the parts in place, check the operation of the machine. If the spin does not start again, change the pump completely.

When washing

When the machine washes but does not spin, the problem may be in the washer motor. In this case, spinning is simply impossible, or it passes, but too weakly.

  • Remove the back of the housing and pull out the motor for inspection.
  • Take out the electric brushes that are located on both sides of the case.
  • If they are worn out, replace them with new ones.

  • Also check the wiring at the time of burns and ring the coil with a multimeter.

If the motor coils are not working, you will not be able to repair it yourself. The engine needs to be completely replaced.

When the drum is not working properly

If the SMA drum does not spin up, does not gain proper speed, the reason is the Hall sensor. The instrument monitors the operation of the engine, but if it breaks down, the operation of the engine may be erratic. The drum can spin, but not wring out the laundry, because it does not develop the desired speed.

To check the tachometer, you need to remove the engine, as described above. The device is located on the motor housing. If the sensor breaks down, it cannot be repaired, it must be replaced with a new part.

Washing machine won’t open door

If the water level sensor malfunctions, the system does not receive a signal to start draining the water. Consequently, the machine does not wring out and does not open. In order to open the door and take out the laundry, you need to drain the water through the filter. Then wait until the lock is unlocked and open the door.

How to check the pressure switch (level sensor)? In all models of CM “Ariston Hotpoint”, “Electrolux”, “Siemens”, “Daewoo”, “Atlant” the device is located under the top cover.

  • Loosen the two screws on the back.
  • Slide the cover away from you and remove it from the case.
  • At the wall you will notice a pressure switch.
  • Disconnect its tubes and check for blockage.
  • The device itself is checked with a multimeter. Its probes are applied to the contacts of the device, indicators are measured.

If the sensor is defective, install a new device.

Spin does not turn off

Problems with the control module in the washer can be expressed in the fact that the drum does not stop and the spin cycle does not turn off. After these revs, the car just freezes. It may also be that CMA wrings out, rinses, but does not wash. Or vice versa – erases, but does not rinse.

All of these signs point to problems with the “brain” of SMA, so it starts to work incorrectly.

On your own, you can only externally inspect the control board. It is better to entrust basic diagnostics and repairs to professionals.

  • Disconnect the washing machine from the electricity.
  • Remove the top cover.
  • Pull out the dispenser tray. Pull it towards you by pressing the latch in the center.
  • Remove the screws securing the control panel.
  • Release the plastic clips and remove the panel.
  • Unclip the wire.
  • To remove the board, also release the latches.

If there are no signs of damage on the surface of the board, contact the service center.

How to avoid breakage

It is always better to prevent a breakdown than to repair it later. Moreover, the rules of operation are simple:

  • Before loading laundry into the drum, check all pockets, remove foreign objects.
  • Install and connect the machine correctly according to the instructions.
  • Sort items before washing. Place clothes with decor in special bags.
  • Do not load too much laundry. This leads to rapid wear of the washer and poor-quality washing.
  • Install a voltage stabilizer. It will protect expensive equipment from sudden breakdown.
  • Periodically clean the drain filter and the detergent drawer.
  • Do not close the hatch door after removing the laundry. This promotes the formation of fungus and mold.

Now you know why the drum in the washing machine may not spin and wring out the laundry. Be attentive to the first manifestations of a breakdown, then you will be able to avoid costly repairs.
