Washing machine not working? What is the reason that the last wash went as usual, but now the machine does not start? To find a malfunction, you need to diagnose the washing machine, check its details.
Thanks to our article, you can independently inspect and try to fix the breakdown.
Causes and symptoms of malfunction
What are the signs of damage to watch out for?
- SMA does not respond to pressing the start button.
- Connecting the washing machine to the network ends with the flashing of all the lights.
- After connecting the machine, the light comes on, but the program does not start.
Why does the washing machine or semi-automatic machine not turn on? Consider the possible causes of failure:
- The power supply to the machine is broken. The power cord, socket may be damaged or there is no power in the network.
- The interference filter or its wiring burned out.
- Start button contacts damaged.
- Faulty UBL lock on the door.
- The programmer (commander), which is responsible for the operation of the buttons on the control panel, has failed.
- The wiring leading to the control board was damaged, or the board itself was damaged – perhaps if the lights were turned off.
Before contacting a service center or buying new equipment, check – perhaps the reason is not a breakdown at all, but a simple failure.
What to do if the washing machine does not turn on
Start by inspecting the equipment:
- Check if the power cord of the washing machine is connected to the mains.
- Check the shield – the electricity in the room may have turned off.
- If the machine does not respond to the power button, plug in another appliance and check if it works.
- Inspect the power cord for damage, maybe it is pinched by some object. The damaged place can be fastened with electrical tape, but it is better to replace the wire completely.
If the inspection did not give results, further diagnostics and repair of the washing machine will be required. Let us describe the typical causes of SMA breakdown.
After the purchase
What to do if a new washing machine does not work? If you just installed the washer, but it does not work, you do not need to disassemble it yourself. Contact the store for warranty. Perhaps there is a factory marriage.
After the power surge
After a power surge, the surge protector (FPS) first of all suffers, which protects the electronic module of the machine from combustion. The filter also serves to neutralize interference that may be caused by appliances adjacent to the washing machine. As a result of a breakdown, the filter may not pass electricity.
How to check:
- Remove the top cover from the body of the washer by unscrewing the screws at the back.
- At the side wall you will find the surge protector.
- Examine it and the contacts attached to it. Burnt parts or filter swelling are usually noticeable. Then he immediately needs a replacement.
- If nothing is visually visible, the filter contacts are called by a multimeter.
- The item is not repairable. To pull it out of the case, disconnect the wiring and unscrew the mounting bolt.
From the filter, the wiring leads either to the start button or to the control module. Depends on the year of manufacture of the car. After a voltage drop, the wiring could burn out.
The start button in the on state must pass current. You can find this out by attaching a multimeter probe to its wires. If it shows resistance on the screen, then the button is working, if not, it needs to be replaced.
You can order a button specifically for your model in the online store.
Sometimes the button sticks if detergents get on it. Then you need to clean the nest and install the key in place.
To avoid voltage problems, it is recommended to connect the washer from a power generator.
After moving
Your car used to work fine, but after moving it does not turn on? You need to check the electronic module. The fact is that water not removed from the dispenser tray (it always remains there) during shaking or turning the machine could get on the module. This immediately disables it or leads to a short circuit when turned on.
Module check:
- Disconnect the washer from electricity.
- Remove the top cover.
- Remove the dispenser tray by pressing the lock in the center.
- Remove all screws that secure the control panel and remove it from the case.
- Take a picture of the location of the wiring, disconnect it.
- Release the plastic latches, remove the board from the panel.
If no damage is found during the inspection, return the board for diagnostics to a service center.
SMA turns on but does not work
If the Indesit, Hansa, Whirlpool and other models turn on but do not work, the reason is the UBL lock. The machine does not start washing because the electronic lock or its wiring is broken.
In addition to the usual lock, the washing machine system has an electronic lock. After closing it, you should hear the door click. If this does not happen, the electronic module does not receive a signal, so the wash does not start. At the same time, the indicators do not light up, the “Lock” light may blink.
As soon as the door is locked, you will immediately hear the sound of water intake.
How to check UBL:
- Open the hatch door.
- To get to the castle, you need to remove the hatch cuff clamp.
- To do this, bend the sealing rubber and remove the clamp.
- Tuck the cuff inside the tank.
- Loosen the two lock screws.
- With your hand behind the body, remove the lock.
- Disconnect its wires.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the lock on the contacts, if it is faulty, install a new part.
Wiring problems
Check SMA wiring. If it does not burn out, the connectors may loosen due to the strong vibration of the machine. Careful inspection and ringing with a multimeter is necessary. In the event of a breakdown, the wiring is replaced in whole or in part.
What to do to avoid problems
It is important to use your washing machine correctly. For this:
- Stick to the instructions.
- Do not force the washer to work for wear. With several washings per day, take breaks for a couple of hours.
- After washing, leave the hatch open, wipe the cuff from mold. Wash the dispenser tray periodically to remove detergent residue.
- Read the composition of the detergents you use so as not to harm yourself and the car.
- Carry out limescale prevention, including an empty machine at high temperatures. Use special tools.
By following simple rules, you can extend the life of your equipment.
