The washing machine does not draw water – how to fix it

After the usual start-up, have you noticed that the washing machine does not draw water? Or is the water pouring in, but too slowly? The cause of the malfunction can be either a clogged system or a breakdown of the SMA parts.

What if the washing machine does not work? Switching to hand washing is not an option. After reading the article, you will learn how to independently detect and fix the breakdown.

Why SMA is gaining little water – inattention

The reasons why the washer pours little water can be very simple. Before proceeding with disassembly and repair, check the following parts:

  1. Turn off the faucet and see if there is water in the plumbing. It is possible that repairs are underway, and the supply is temporarily blocked. Also, the cause of poor water intake can be a small pressure. It remains only to wait until the normal supply resumes.
  2. Turn the inlet valve. If it was blocked, it is not surprising that water does not flow.
  3. Inspect the fill hose. Maybe it was crushed by some object, bent over, so it does not let water through.
  4. Incorrect pipe connection leads to self-draining. If your connection is made directly to the sewer without a siphon, or the hose is connected more than 50 cm from the floor, self-draining of water is inevitable. Read the instructions and make the correct connection.

Have you checked everything, but found no problems? How much water should a washing machine take in general? It all depends on the selected mode. For delicate fabrics and baby clothes, more water is usually added. With any program, it should be enough for washing.

Malfunctions leading to slow water intake

The simplest problem may be a clogged intake filter. All small debris that comes from the water supply is stopped by the filter. It protects the filling valve. But there are more unpleasant breakdowns:

  • Pay attention to whether the hatch door clicked when closing. The “Lock” indicator should light up on the display, which means: the door is locked. If this does not happen, then the UBL lock is faulty, so the machine will not start washing.
  • Fill valve broken or clogged. Perhaps his coils burned out. The valve is powered by electricity, which is supplied to the coils, allows you to open and close the damper. If the valve is clogged, it will not fill completely and for a long time.
  • The electronic module burned out. It controls the operation of all parts in the automatic washing machine. Therefore, in the event of a breakdown, it does not give a command to draw water for washing and rinsing.
  • If the level sensor malfunctions, the washing machine cannot “understand” how much water is in the tank. The sensor controls the amount of water in the tank, so without it the set will not start, or the water will drain.

Troubleshooting yourself

What to do if the Siemens, Hansa, Samsung machine has stopped taking in water? Start inspecting parts and troubleshooting.

Cleaning the intake filter

Shut off the inlet valve, disconnect the machine from the power supply. Prepare a container and unscrew the intake hose. Immediately behind the hose you will notice a mesh filter. Remove it with pliers and rinse under pressure from the faucet.

Fill valve replacement

To check the operation of the valve in washing machines of different brands – Ariston, Indesit, Electrolux – you need to remove the top cover from the body. The inlet valve is located at the rear wall.

Inspect the valve for damage. To check the serviceability of its operation, alternately apply current to the coils. In this case, the valve turns on and opens in working condition. If nothing happens, you need to replace the part.

  • Disconnect the wiring from the valve.
  • Release the hose clamps and remove them from the valve.
  • Check hoses for blockage. The reason for the slow intake may be the reduced capacity of the hoses.
  • Unscrew the screw securing the valve and remove it from the housing.

Replacing the level sensor

A broken pressure switch cannot be repaired. To replace it, you also need to remove the top panel. Depending on the model of the machine, the sensor can be attached to the body with bolts or latches.

  • Disconnect all wires leading to the sensor, as well as the hose.
  • Remove the sensor from the housing.

You can check the pressure switch in this way:

  • Install a short tube in place of the removed hose.
  • Blow into the phone.
  • If you hear clicks at the same time, then the sensor is working.
  • If nothing is heard, it needs a replacement.

Sunroof lock

Sunroof lock broken? It is easy to replace yourself:

If the washer draws less water due to problems with the module, then you should contact the service center. It is not recommended to repair the board on your own.
