The washing machine does not close, does not block the door – what to do

Have you loaded laundry into the drum, are you trying to slam the door, but it won’t close? What happened: the lock does not work or the latch does not fall into the loop? There can be several reasons: from banal problems to breakdowns that require repair.

If your washing machine won’t close the door, self-diagnose and fix the problem.

Causes of malfunction

Why won’t the hatch door latch? Causes are conditionally divided into two categories: mechanical and electronic.

In case of mechanical problems, you will not be able to close the door at all, it simply will not lock. This happens because:

  • Broken or worn plastic guide. This is a typical breakdown for washers under the brand name “Kandy” and “Indesit”. Therefore, when choosing a machine, it is recommended that the guide be metal. In this case, the guide is not fixed in the lock hole, it will need to be replaced.
  • The door hinges are warped. Then the latch tongue does not reach the hole and cannot tightly latch the hatch door. All that is needed is to tighten the screws that secure the hinges with a screwdriver.
  • The tongue-hook has shifted. This leads to a similar problem, only the loops are no longer the cause. To tighten the tongue, you will have to disassemble the door handle.

If there are problems with the electronic lock, then mechanically the sunroof will close normally. But you will not hear a characteristic click, water will not be poured into the tank.

With such breakdowns, an error is displayed on the display that the door is not closed.

Why the blocking is not enabled:

  • UBL lock broke. After the hatch is latched with a hook tongue, the hatch blocking device is activated. The blocker sends a signal to the electronic module, which opens the valves for water intake. If the UBL does not work, then washing is not possible.
  • Debris has entered the electronic lock slot. Perhaps some small rubbish clogged, so the lock does not work.
  • If the door is normally blocked, but the program does not start, the reason is in the control module, which “does not see” the closed door.

How to fix the situation

If the door does not close tightly, and after inspection you find that the tongue or guide is skewed, you need to replace it.

  1. Disconnect the washing machine from the electricity.
  2. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the hinge screws and remove the door from the body.
  3. After laying the door on a flat surface, begin disassembly. First you need to buy a repair kit for your model. Most likely, you will have to buy a complete handle, which includes a tongue.
  4. Unscrew the screws around the perimeter, release the latches and remove the inside of the door.
  5. Before disassembling the handle, take a picture of the location of the parts.
  6. Push and remove the pin, after which nothing will hold the parts.
  7. Assemble the handle in reverse order, installing a new tongue.

What should I do if the CMA display says that the door is not closed? So the electronic lock is not working. Indicators on mechanical panels may flash. The UBL device needs to be replaced.

  • Open the hatch door and unscrew the two bolts securing the device.
  • Bend the sealing rubber.
  • Remove the clamp and thread the cuff inside the drum.
  • Take out the UBL device, disconnect the wiring from it.

Examine the wiring. If burnt parts are visible, it must be replaced. UBL is checked with a multimeter for resistance. If the lock is defective, replace in reverse order.

How to solve problems with the electronic module

You figured out the lock of the washer, examined it, did not find any breakdowns. How to determine that the cause of the malfunction is in the module:

  1. The door locks but does not erase.
  2. The “Lock” indicator does not light up on the display.

If any element or triac of the module burns out, then any part of the washing machine may fail. For example, UBL may work properly, but the control unit does not recognize its signals. Or the filler valve triac is faulty, so the water intake does not start.

Carefully inspect the board and its wiring at the time of burning. Consider how to get to the module, but it is not recommended to repair it yourself.

  • After disconnecting the SMA from power, remove the top cover from the case.
  • Remove the dispenser tray by pressing the latch in the center.
  • Remove the screws holding the control panel.
  • Release the latches and remove the panel from the case.
  • When disconnecting the wiring, inspect it for damage.
  • To remove the board from the panel, you must also release the latches.

If you don’t see any signs of damage, take the board to a service center. They will carry out professional diagnostics and repairs.

As you can see, some damage can be fixed independently. But there are situations when you cannot do without a master – do not take risks and trust complex repairs to specialists.
