Coronavirus does not let you forget about itself. Its sub-variant known as BA.5 in the United States is already the dominant version of the Omicron. Interestingly, scientists have been able to isolate new symptoms that it may cause. Some of them appear at night. See what you should especially pay attention to.

  1. Ba.5 is a new Omikron sub-variant that was discovered in February in South Africa
  2. Research has shown that this strain is much more contagious and spreads faster
  3. BA.5 may also be immune to the COVID-19 vaccine
  4. The symptoms of the new strain of coronavirus are similar to the common cold. However, there are some symptoms that distinguish it. Doctors ask not to underestimate them
  5. Specialists reassure: the new strain of coronavirus does not cause higher mortality or a worse course of the disease

Symptoms of the Omicron BA.5. The disturbing symptom appears at night

Studies have shown that the symptoms of infection with the new version of Omikron most often resemble a cold. “The new variant affects the upper respiratory tract”, Giovanni Di Perri, infectious disease specialist from a hospital in Turin emphasized in La Stampa. Some of the symptoms are:

  1. Stuffed nose,
  2. body aches
  3. Headache,
  4. cough,
  5. sore throat,
  6. general fatigue.

It turns out, however, that the Omikron BA.5 also has several other symptoms that may be characteristic of this version. Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, highlighted two of them. It is about loss of smell and ringing in the ears. Spector suggests taking them very seriously. They may mean that the disease has affected the area closer to the brain.

This is not the end of the new symptoms of Omicron BA.5. Scientists have managed to identify other symptoms that should worry us. Luke O’Neill, professor of biochemistry at Trinity College in Ireland, warned that people with the BA.5 variant may have difficulty sleeping due to night sweats. They are so intense that the pajamas and bedding of sick people were sometimes completely soaked. “The disease is a bit different because the virus has changed,” O’Neill reminded an Irish radio station.

Sub-variant of Omicron BA.5 – what do we know about it?

The sub-variant of Omikron BA.5 was discovered in South Africa in winter. Scientists are still learning about it. However, it is already known that it is much more contagious than other variants of the coronavirus. Moreover, it is spreading at a faster pace. Unfortunately, the indications are that BA.5 may also be immune to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Francois Balloux, director of the University College London Genetics Institute, told nbcnews.com that this is most likely another reason sub-options have taken control. Let us remind you that in the United States they are already the dominant version of the Omicron.

Despite everything, specialists calm down. Although the new Omicron sub-variant is much more contagious, it does not make the disease worse. “There is really no clear evidence that it causes higher mortality or an acute disease,” says Balloux.
