Piotr Gąsowski openly admitted that he had vaccinated against the coronavirus. And yet, not only was he hospitalized, but oxygen was also needed. Does this mean that COVID-19 vaccines are not working? Absolutely not.

No vaccine, nor any drug, can provide 100% of the disease. effectiveness. Be it in terms of protection against disease or against its severe course. This means that it is not abnormal for a vaccinated person to be admitted to hospital.

COVID-19 vaccines are most effective in protecting against severe disease and death as a result of it. Protection against hospitalization is slightly lower, and protection against infection itself.

Vaccines become less effective over time

We do not know when exactly Piotr Gąsowski was vaccinated against COVID-19 or with what preparation. And this is important information, especially in the context of the research results that were published a few weeks ago in the pages of Science magazine.

They show that the effectiveness of individual preparations decreases over time, and in the case of one of them, the decrease in immunity after a few months is even drastic. And so, when it comes to Moderna, its effectiveness among the respondents was initially 89%, and after six months it dropped to 58%. For Pfizer, the original figure was 87%, after which it fell to 45%. The most drastic difference, however, was with the Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine. This was a drop from 86% to just 13%. six months after receiving the vaccine.

For fully vaccinated people, it is important to remember that the protection provided by vaccines may decrease over time. To prevent this from happening, the authorities of some countries have decided to administer the so-called booster, i.e. a booster dose. In Poland, from November 2, all adult citizens can sign up for it. Taking the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine reduces the risk of hospitalization or death from coronavirus infection.

What if Piotr Gąsowski had not been vaccinated?

Research studies on vaccines against COVID-19, carried out in laboratory conditions, but also in the form of “live experiments”, i.e. observing societies that have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, clearly show that the vaccines work.

They protect (although not 100%) against infection, severe course, hospitalization and death. They also alleviate the course of the disease if it does become infected. Piotr Gąsowski was hospitalized and required oxygen, although he is a vaccinated person. This means that if he had not received the vaccine sooner, his condition could have been much more serious.
