A kid named Narwhal has another tail growing on his forehead.
It seemed difficult to surprise the staff at the Mac’s Mission shelter. The institution specializes in working with animals with unusual development or special behavior. But the new guest of the shelter is not at all like the others.
A 10 month old puppy came here with frostbitten paws, but this is not the most surprising feature of the baby. Another tail grows on his forehead. The new guest was jokingly nicknamed the fluffy unicorn.
“We have seen many strange animals born with all kinds of excesses. We generally specialize in dogs with disabilities, be it cleft palate, trauma or other pathologies. But this kid is something special. We have never met this one before, ”says Rochelle Steffen, founder of the animal shelter where the puppy ended up.
Rochelle learned about the puppy from a Facebook post. Her acquaintances began to note her in the comments, knowing that a woman would not be able to pass by such a miracle of nature.
Why this part of the body grew in the “wrong” place, the doctors could not answer with complete certainty. It is only known that the extra tail does not interfere with the puppy and is not dangerous to his health. True, this tail is devoid of bones and is not connected by muscle tissue to the skull, so the baby cannot wag it.
The unusual guest has already been given an appropriate name. It was named Narwhal, after a family of marine animals. They can be recognized by their unusual color and long tusk located on the muzzle.
The narwhal turned out to be a cross between a golden retriever and a dachshund. And nothing but an extra ponytail distinguishes him from other puppies. He is as playful, cheerful and completely healthy as his less special relatives.
More than 17 thousand people have already volunteered to adopt an unusual puppy. But Rochelle is going to keep the baby in a shelter for a couple of months – just to make sure that he develops and grows normally, and that his extra tail will not cause him any further problems. Moreover, Narwhal has already made friends with many dogs at the shelter, including those who are a couple of dozen times bigger than him.
“He’s an absolutely normal puppy. He slept with me all last night, on a pillow next to my head. He is an incredibly happy dog and doesn’t even know that the whole world has fallen in love with him, ”says Rochelle.
