In the modern world, more and more people are turning to a healthy lifestyle. Many people are interested in discovering organic products. And yet the general consumer knows about them only by hearsay. Hence, there are many myths that we will try to debunk today.
A treasure trove of nature
To begin with, let’s understand what organic products are. In general terms, organic is a system of food production based solely on environmentally friendly methods. In particular, it does not accept synthetic fertilizers, growth hormones, pesticides and other chemicals.
At the heart of organic products is a careful attitude to the environment and concern for human health, which is often not true of modern products that we buy in the supermarket. Many of them are often responsible for the spread of various diseases. In this situation, organic food can be a reasonable alternative.
In Russia, the company “AgriVolga”, which produces meat and dairy products “Ugleche Pole”, has extensive experience in organic agriculture. The founder of the brand Sergey Bachin has studied this topic in practice, down to the smallest nuances. He shared his valuable knowledge in his book “Organics. Myths and reality”.
Taste as a habit
A common accusation against organic producers is the unusual taste of products that differs from the standard one. This is explained quite simply. Having consumed “factory” food for many years, a person is no longer able to appreciate the taste of a natural product. The reason for this is the lack of all sorts of flavor enhancers, sweeteners, flavors, and other “tricky” ingredients that the buyer is used to.
In addition, in mass production, it is important that the product does not spoil as long as possible, and therefore preservatives are used, often distorting the taste. Meanwhile, organic products are not only devoid of all these dubious additives, but also have a much larger supply of vitamins and minerals of natural origin.
In short, many of us have simply forgotten what real natural products are and how delicious they really are. Let’s try to love them again-health will only thank us.
Pristine freshness
The most aggressive minds try to catch organic producers on a hidden deception. Organic milk can be stored for 10-12 days. How is this possible without the use of preservatives? In reality, an organic product can have such a shelf life. Milk, as you know, sours due to the multiplication of microbes. In organic production, milk is subjected to low-temperature pasteurization, which destroys the harmful microflora. This allows the product to retain its freshness and taste for a certain period of time. But, unlike sterilized milk, organic milk is not capable of not spoiling for months. But it contains much more valuable elements. Milk of the brand “Ugleche Pole” is a convincing proof of this.
Payment for quality
Many consumers are surprised that organic products are on average 30-40% more expensive than conventional ones. Skeptics explain this fact by the desire of manufacturers to give products an imaginary value and thereby enrich themselves. But there is no mercenary intent here. The fact is that the volume of the finished product in industrial production is always higher than in organic production. Various synthetic additives help to increase them, while organic products are a kind of piece goods. It makes sense that they can’t be sold at the same price as regular products.
When a farm switches from an industrial mode of production to an organic one, it loses its output: after all, without stimulants and “chemistry” it is difficult to produce huge volumes. Therefore, for example, the milk yield decreases. Add to this that the cows are kept in accordance with the special and very costly conditions of organic farming. As a result, manufacturers are forced to equalize the situation with the price.
Arguments of reason
There is an opinion that organic products are food for the elite. Among them are dieters, vegetarians, professional athletes, people with diseases or high incomes. In reality, this circle is much wider. Organic products can and should be on the menu of those who are thoughtful about healthy eating. Especially in families with young children and the elderly.
Organic products in ordinary supermarkets are a rare guest. Therefore, you should look for them in specialized organic food stores or healthy food departments. The already mentioned high price serves as a deterrent to demand. At the same time, no one has tried to calculate the approximate costs of treatment that the consumption of mass-produced products entails. In the end, it all comes down to a simple choice: between a cheap product and a useful product. And what to choose from this, it’s up to you.
In any case, it will definitely not hurt to try organic products. At least in order to form your own idea of them and feel the authentic natural taste. It may very well be that this will change your idea of a healthy diet.
